There's a reason the Hiace and similar vehicles are prohibited from import to or legal road use in the US and a number of other countries with actual functional automotive safety laws.

Zero crumple zones.

This is an automotive safety invention that's been around since Mercedes Benz gave out the patent in the 50s.

When there are no crumple zones and an impact happens at high velocity, all that kinetic energy has to go somewhere.

Add that to terrible roads, lack of real enforceable road safety regulations, barely trained drivers with abysmal driving culture, nonchalant passengers, and non-existent first responder systems, and this is what happens.

"take it easy" they won't hear. Some passengers were probably telling the driver, "slow down driver! Where you dey go sef? No be only Lagos here".

But he must have carried on. Some passengers will even tell those talkers to keep quiet & allow the driver do his work. They forget that life has no duplicate. Now the driver didn't just slow down. Hell, he didn't even just stop, but he & some passengers may NEVER move again except to be carried to the mortuary or to the grave. It's a pity.

RIP to the dead. God knows the best.

Not all oh.. I once boarded one from owerri to lagos, left owerri around 7:30, arrived lagos around 2pm. Even the person i go find for lag was shocked.

I'm telling you! It's so sad. If you look at the damage to the vehicle, you will notice that they were probably on high speed. That's the only explanation as to why it was damaged like that(except they collided with a heavy-duty truck that was on high speed)

from my observation from the impact and damage of the front side of that bus. I can categorically state that the driver was matching beyond 160-180.

The accident only affected front seat passengers and the bus is still largely intact, even the 4 Tyres. I think the collision happened while trying to slow down from top speed bt not enough time to maneuver or get to a halt b4 impact with a much bigger vehicle or object.

Like sm1 said the front end of this vehicle is to short to absorb any impact before it gets to passengers. Seeing it’s been raining the driver shud have been extra cautious. It’s always best for people sitting with the driver to be extra attentive as most of these drivers don’t see or anticipate certain things early enough. So sad

I recently travelled to portharcourt and while on my journey,I witnessed the recklessness of most of the drivers on the road....

The painful part is that passengers keep mute as if they have been hypnotized!

Even when you caution the driver's recklessness,some passengers will start defending the driver as if their own life and safety means nothing to them!

Looking at this accident,why would a driver be over speeding on a rain-soaked surface?

Please I did not say God is not protecting and guiding us ohh...however,the same God gave us eyes to see and a mouth to speak.....
Accidents can be avoided if passengers start to speak up!

That's more than double the UK speed limit of 70m/hr, do we even have a speed limit in Nigeria..Young lives wasted, may there souls RIP..

Maybe you're right, but you have to know that an accident could also be caused from others recklessness, I've seen a case where a car that was well parked got hit by a truck that failed brakes.

this would slow down accident cases most esp the situation of Nigeria roads.

I read a topic on vacation in Nigeria recently and I was just smiling. I love travelling more than anything but considering the accident cases in Nigeria unsafe road this days I've cut short my travelling before it cut me short from earth. precaution and prevention very important in safety

You see what reckless driving can cause.That was how i was travelling from lagos to abuja with a sienna bus i practically quarelled with the driver all tru the journey he was over speeding and not only that he will drive very close to trailers like 3 meters before trying to overtake them at high speed what if the trailer brakes suddenly?

The annoying thing was that my fellow passengers were telling me to leave the driver alone that they dont want to get to abuja in the night. I was like is it not better to arrive abuja late than not to arrive at all? shocked Mumu passengers in fact i felt like slapping the back head of that driver.Never u hesitate to shout on your driver to slow down if he is overspeeding.

R.i.p to the dead.
