some of thus pics show how the militants will go for the crude and refine it then sell they claim, that they source for buyers on the internet somtimes making 1600euros a day.so one thing for sure is that the real militants are still out there in the creeks the so called rehabilitation is for unemployed youths. because if you add sale of crude and refined products to kidnapping for ransome this guys will be super rich by now.so even though the kidnapping has reduced the sale of crude from the wells of spdc and locally refining it for cool cash cant stop in the creeks my 2kobo contribution.

@Poster, those are not millitants but Oil workers  . . . because the Niger deltans have little responsibility in the environmental disaster in the area.  grin The Oil spill and breaking of pipes to steal oil is all the work of the Oil companies.

There are more than 50,000 of them in MEND and hundreds of other militant groups.

Well, I am glad I have at least jolted you back to the true reality of the situation there as you celebrate having an "army" 50K strong ( according to your claim there).

hhmm . . .  hope you are also happy that the people(tax payers included) are loosing N6500(0) * 50,000 a month to the same army, even as they pay so much more for their own security and protection from this same army.  grin

I wasn't celebrating it. I was talking of facts and reality that is on the ground which had nothing to do with the Aba situation.
It is a reality that there are up to 50,000 armed militants in the niger delta and that to me constitute an army. If you monitor the vibes that have been coming out of the north of recent, you will catch a kind of mutual respect in the waves. Since the JTF were unable to defeat the militants and the government opted to start bribing them, there is this feeling in the north that they cannot use the northern dominated nigeria army to lord over the south and niger delta anymore as they use to in the past.

While you are spewing your FACTS there, you might want to UPDATE yourself on the situation in Aba and how it is connected to this. The kidnappers in Abia are remnants of the groups that have terrorized oil areas, b but where somehow left behind during the negotiations. This is why the Government of Abia is working on getting them THEIR OWN SHARE of the BOOTY( Naira 6500(0) monthly stipend and other benefits, offered factions in other states in the region).

ROFLMAO!!! A kind of mutual respect? Come on now . . they have already figured out that all they have to do is pay the millitants off to pacify them. Maybe that is the vibe you confuse to mean A KIND OF MUTUAL RESPECT . . cheesy

They don't need to though . . . they have already discovered the Achilles heel of the militants . . . MONEY, MONEY, and MORE MONEY!

They only thought of the money angle after they failed to defeat the militants and wasted $ billion buying all sort of military hardware. Now they know there is no military solution because they have tried it. I don't think the government enjoy paying the militants N60,000 a month. If there was a possibility to kill off all the militants, they would have done that.

I believe the kidnapping in Abia state is being driven by armed robbers who now see kidnapping as a lucrative venture. Even before kidnapping started in the niger delta, there were so many armed robbers in the east especially Aba. Kidnapping is also taking place in other part of nigeria. Are you suggesting all of them are also remnant of the niger delta militants?

What? Does it matter if they failed at one, when the point is they won in the end by simply spraying the militants with, what? MONEY. They realized they could have saved themselves $1 billion by simply spraying that money instead on the Militants, right? lol
Well, does the money paid the militants belong to these government officials? Ofcourse not! So why would it really bother them as long as they can use it to pacify the militants while they get back to BUSINESS AS USUAL!

Note: I did not mention OTHER PARTS OF NIGERIA but simply focused on oil rich areas where the kidnappers/militants have operated for a while now. Of course kidnapping was lucrative while it had MEND's signature broadcasted and it is still is even now that only some factions of these militant groups are involved.

We are all happy there is relative peace in the niger delta now. Atleast it gives the government an opportunity to sort out the niger delta problem. But as long as the militants still have their weapons and numbers, i cannot regard this as a win. Besides, how do we know the militants are not using the money the government is paying them to buy more weapons. That is why the government need to act fast and bring development to the region so that the militant will have no other excuse to fall back on.

Coming back to my original point, the north now realise that they cannot overpower or threaten the niger delta or the south with the northern dominated nigerian army. Don't know why you have a problem with this.
