The winner of 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola's son, Abdulmumuni Abiola, has said the country is not ripe for a youth president.

Abiola told journalists at the maiden national youth summit organised by The Zealous Kwara Youths in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Saturday, that though he was hopeful that a youth could become president someday, it was imperative to give President Muhammadu Buhari a second chance, The Punch reports.

He said:

“I do believe that there shall be a time, just like in Canada and France, when we have somebody that is around 30 in power. I don’t just think that time is right. I think there is a reason why Buhari is there and I would want us to be patient to see him through.

We should give him another four years and he will handover power to the youth.

“I do not have anybody else to campaign for. Somebody after 20 years honoured my father and did what other people refused to do, so I am supporting Buhari for a second term.”

The President of the ZKY, Mr John Adegboyega, said it was necessary to sanitise Nigeria of corrupt practises.

Adegboyega added that 2019 was not yet time for a youth to become president.

He said the youth should participate actively in the political process and elect people who would deliver good governance and move the country forward.

This dude is probably the definition of that adage that says a fool at 40...

Shut up kwa. Which youth is experienced, able, ready to run this highly divided and very complex country? A country full of people with nothing but criminal and anti-society mindset. Please dont mention idiots like sowrre, Monghalu. .....and all the other zero weights making noise on the sidelines. Just look at davido and starboy, look at the youth governors. ...total disaster

Let use our head instead of useless emotions.

Dude, don't tell people online to shut up because you disagree with their opinion. It is a stupid and immature thing to do.

That been said, the guy you quoted is on point. If you think there's no 30+ youth that is all round smarter than Buhari then you're one of the problems we have in this country.

Bitter truth!

I don't support his reasons though.

But I don't think the "youths" are genuinely ready.

Just imagine his reason for supporting Buhari. An honour that does not translate into any tangible development or in any way alleviate the sufferings in the land.

And this is supposedly an educated person.

Because he honoured your father that's why millions of Nigerians should suffer another 4 years of misrule?

The award was even politically motivated in the first place.

Go on and support him...it is your right...

But Nigerians will decide.

cool youth are quite ready. actually the most profitable non oil sector of our economy is greatly managed by the youth(entertainment, music, telecommunications, literature). time has proven that the creativity required in governance, requires youthfulness. Nigeria's independence was fought by the educated youth of that time, before the youthful coupist Generals took over and ruined everything. it is highly understandable that he has to side with the government, as summit oil requires government patronage to maintain its license. and without oil money, he is nothing.

It is not a problem to hand over to the youth... But where almost all youth of the country are into yahoo and we all see it as normal thing, we can never deliver a country like this to youths that will even do more worse than those adults there, what we need is change, either we have an adult or young in power.
