Yorubas Descendants Of Arabians ; A Legend Or The Truth? by rokisammy: 10:42am On Sep 19, 2018
When I was in secondary school my Yoruba teacher told me a story of how Yorubas came to Ife from Arab according to her

"Lamrudu was the leader and he had children, one of his sons (I don't remember his name), went abroad to study , there he became a Muslim and came back to Mecca to preach the religion but the people refused the religion, it resulted into a war where lamrudu was killed, his son Oduduwa escaped with some people, they trekked for 90 days to Ile-Ife (Homeland of Yorubas)"

asides my Yoruba teacher's story I've read this somewhere else, now the thing is I've met Yorubas who deny this story, I've checked Wikipedia it doesn't mention this particular story and I've believed this story for a long time now
...............

my question is "is this story true or not"

This is not suppose to be an insult but the Yorubas I've met care less about their own history and origins

It is not true, disabuse your mind of the nonsense.

The original story was told by Sultan Bello of Sokoto to Clapperton, an European explorer. In the story, the Sultan was referring to Old Oyo.

The Sultan said the people of old Oyo (who used to be the actual Yoruba) trekked from Mecca to the Old Oyo site with Yauri people of the North.

Muslims of the colonial period twisted this story to feature Oduduwa in order to give credence to their religion and gather more converts. In reaction, Christians began to tell their own lies that Oduduwa/Yoruba came from Egypt to prevent Christians & traditionalist who were largely still connected to their culture from moving to Islam.

In conclusion, the entire thing is a lie.

Whoa, thanks for enlightening me this much,
The book I read backed the story saying most of Yoruba words were coined from Arabic
e.g Yar-ha-ba - Yoruba
Al-ba-ssa - Alubosa, e.t.c

what confused me the most was why they allowed our schools to teach us such a fable

Yoruba did not comd from Arabic.
Other words that came from Arabic were borrowed in recent times due to trade between Yoruba & Northern peoples.

History as a discipline is being killed by Fed Govt.
