2019: 7 Reasons Why Atiku Picked Peter Obi As Running Mate _ Cyberng by Webvibez: 1:18am On Oct 13, 2018
The Presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar has made public his choice of former Anambra Governor Peter Obi as his running mate.

The choice would be popular among many, though some may have reservations especially with the assumption that the South East votes are quite guaranteed for the PDP come what may.

That nonetheless, here are 7 reasons that may have informed Obi’s choice as the running mate for Atiku

Viable Younger option

One grouse that many Nigerians have against the present government is that it is being championed by a man seen to be too old for the task of governing a complex country like Nigeria. The assumption of many is that Nigeria needs a young and agile individual that can drive the change Nigeria truly needs.
Atiku at 71 is just four years younger than President Buhari who claims to be 75. In this light picking an old breed for a running mate would be suicidal, hence picking an Obi who is 57 is plausible as he is even younger than the present vice-president Yemi Osinbanjo who is 61.

Intelligent
One of the conditions given to Atiku by the PDP was that his running mate must have a good grasp of the economy and must be intellectually sound. Those qualities are evident in Obi at least going by his giant strides in Anambra and contributions to national discourse in recent times

Clean record
When a governor is impeached because he allegedly refused to inflate budgets, that speaks volume of his integrity.
Unlike his predecessors that left debts for their successors to grapple with, Obi left as much N300m in the coffers of his state after completing his two terms in office

Successful businessmen
Atiku and Obi are a perfect combo with a proven business sense and wealth creation ability. Indeed if the duo can

Appeal to the youth
Obi is definitely a choice that resonates with youths across the country, the former Anambra governor has spoken in many youth platforms and his oratory skills has endeared him to many. Going by trends on social media, it is evident that young folks welcome the choice of Obi as vice president.

Experience
Serving as a governor for eight years already gives Obi some level of experience which the likes of Osinbajo never had even though he was a commissioner under Bola Tinubu.
Obi aside his experience as a governor was also a Honorary Special Adviser to the President on Finance and member of the Presidential Economic Management Team during Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency. He was also a member of multiple Federal Government committees.

Possible next Ibo president
In the spirit of rotation, the South East are waiting patiently for their turn to have the mantle of leadership in the country. Atiku has promised that he would do just one term in office, with an Ibo man in the mould of Obi already at Aso Rock, that dream of an Ibo president will be easier to achieve
