Americana Boy....no Be Here!!! by Afroprince(m): 6:57am On Oct 13, 2018
It was a bright sunny day, i woke up and decided i wanted to relocate to another country because i envisaged that this country was going down so i decided to talk to my uncle about going to America and start a new life, after the discussion my uncle assured me it was going to happen so i was happy and chilled. I quickly had my bath and went to my advertising job. I was quite happy that day, at last my dream was going to be reality. Then one day, my uncle called me that he has paid for my American passport process that all i needed to do was to send my passport and that the details was gonna be handled for me. I called my wife and told her to get ready for us to go for the interview in Lagos.

Then i told my wife my dream but she kicked against it but i managed to convince her, the dream was to get an American passport which in turn affects all of them. So we decided to lodge at a hotel in Lekki in order to meet our appointment the next day...meanwhile we had to practise for the big day! I noticed that my wife was not so into it or was she pretending not to be interested in going to America? A million dollar question to be answered someday! So we lodged at the hotel and the next day, we were gonna leave very early! The next day, very early we arrived at the American Embassy, we queued up and registered and within sometime it got to our turn. The asked what we wanna go do and we replied vacation, the woman asked where else i have been and i replied Dubai, South Africa, Kenya and Holland. It struck the woman and we were asked to hand over our passport and collect after three days! Wow! somebody blow the the trumpet! it has happened lol! We are going to America! Then the issue of money came up...lol! the bill for securing the visa was N1.2m lol! how do i pay i have N400,000 left so how i go do am!

I spoke to my Uncle and he promised to pay half of the money while i pay the other half, i agreed immediately! So i was happy but i had a mixed feeling from then coupled with the realities of how to get a job when i arrive but hey faith will decide...I don get the visa be say I don get am jare! So it happened that we had to leave for Owerri with sounds of Victory! After all, we got what we went for! How to get the money to pay was going to be decided! Then we journeyed back to Owerri and when we got back it was a party! We went and we conquered! that was the main fact..lol! See you in the next update!

Yes o! so the journey began….it was the day i was to move with wifey abroad…That morning we gathered and prayed with family! I looked at my children and wondered how the will fare without me in Nigeria but i was consoled by the fact that my Super mom was around and was gonna watch em while i was away. We then moved…On our way i remembered all that has happened in Nigeria…i remembered my money in the then website – MMM. I had put N600,000 and was expecting N1.2m but to my greatest dismay the company ran into some shit and closed up remitting peanuts for such a large investment. I began to reason, I would have invested that money into a business, by now i would have been a big boy. I said well…faith didn’t permit it so i have to move on in life!

We boarded a flight going to Dubai and will transfer to America from Dubai! I watched my wife and she was really cool, i wondered how i could leave her in Nigeria but i said lets make the money first not knowing there was more to life than making all the money in the world. Hey! Money makes life turn around, don’t get me wrong. The served us well in the airline (Don’t wanna mention names) and i watched a lot of movies aboard….i saw a very captivating movie about an athlete who got ill during his career and was told he wasn’t gonna run again….ehm forgotten the name of the movie shaa! but it was so real that i began to think about my life! We touched down New York much later that day and we chartered a taxi down to Connecticut and we arrived New Haven where my Uncle stays…Uncle Douglas which i may refer to as Uncle Doug henceforth!
He was very warm and direct in answering most questions thrown to him about America meanwhile it was quite snowy and cold done dey hammer us! lol. Then he gave us some warm clothes and he was supposed to go see a college game and we took off with him, my first outing in America..lol! it was a nice game, my uncle’s daughter played in the game, she was very good and after that we got home. The next day, we were welcomed to the loneliness of America, my uncle left for work, so did his wife and i was left alone with wifey at home! We spent the day all alone and took a work around the neighbourhood. It was large and cute with absolutely no one to say hi to! During the afternoon Uncle Doug came home and we started talking about jobs and he told me – Fado mehn! gotta to tell u the truth, there is no job in America especially if you ain’t got papers! it dawned on me this was gonna be a wasted journey but i told myself I was gonna get a job after all his other brother has promised me a job with his junior brother already!

It was just a boring few days! we had all the movies to watch – Netflix and free internet but i was not so interested, as a journey just come i was more interested with getting a job and fixing my life straight up little did i know i was in for the long thing…lol! So my uncle took me and wifey out on our first date, we grooved at a bar and we had a lot of fun! We display so many dance steps as par guys wey just come from where e dey happen..lol! We had free Chicken wings and drank some scotch! it was a happy day for us. The next day we visited some sites such as Yale University and Downtown New Haven…we were so happy! At last..we don come America – omo see groove eh!

So it was getting to the time my wifey was gonna leave! O gosh! Gonna be alone when wifey is gone! Wll start facing the realities of living in America. Well communicated with Uncle Emeka the guy that actually planned my America trip! He said i was gonna come to Atlanta to stay with him and so i was counting my days in Connecticut! Then the day came when wifey was gonna leave…and i sat there and thought about how its gonna be, finally i have to start facing the realities of staying back when she is gone. Eventually she now left for New York, from there she will head to Dubai and then Nigeria. It happened that we miscalculated the date! she was gonna leave the next day so she slept in New York for a day and i had no way to connect with her cos she had no American number and she refused to borrow a phone and contact me, well she sorted her problems out but left me in Limbo!

After living in fear for a couple of hours, she finally called me that she was safe and heading to Dubai and i thanked God for her! At least my mind has finally calmed down but was worried she stayed a whole day without calling me…she is safe and that what matters. The next couple of days were uneventful and i was looking upto Atlanta. I flew to Atlanta in the next couple of days and my uncle already arranged a lady to pick me up. I arrived finally and i think it was in the middle of the night but my uncles house looked more like a 5 star hotel and i had the the downfloor all to myself! soon enough i went up in the morning and greeted my uncle, his wife and children…then we sat down and discussed about work! My uncle then revealed i couldn’t work with his younger brother again as promised but said he was gonna take me to a place later that day. Now the pleasant thing i noticed about Atlanta was the pleasant weather! nothing like Connecticut which was cold and unfriendly around that time. I was still suited up but discovered it wasn’t cold and my uncle even yabbed me.

Then a couple of minutes we drove down to see his Ghanaian friend whom he said i was gonna work with in a car wash. He said i can start work the next day, but i thought about it and the next day day i felt sick a little bit and decided not go…1st mistake i made in America cos i couldn’t get that opportunity again, the next day the guy said the place was full! that was how i lost the opportunity of being paid $250 dollars every Friday! Then my uncle organised another work for me somewhere in Atlanta but it was far from where i lived! Had to drop me every morning and then i join a train before i arrive at work, was changing tires but again i missed work the next day! and that was it! Had i known, i would have stayed glued to those jobs i got but i couldn’t because i felt degraded but not knowing those were good jobs! had i known!

So i was gonna stay at home for the rest of the months! aww! it was very boring but i have learnt my lesson and was gonna grab the other job i get with both hands, then i decided to be watching a series on Netflix titled Lost! i was so captivated by the movie that i forgot why i was in America! But i stayed 2 months in Atlanta and found out that leaving in America wasn’t gonna be easy task! I then met a lady who liked me a lot and she connected me to a job where i was working in the Kitchen! wasn’t close to the house as well so I engaged Kuchy the lady cab driver and was to be paying her anytime she picks me up! My first successful job in America but very stressful! i managed the job for a week and gave up! Plenty of plates to be warshed and i had no machine and too was gonna serve food after! I said is this why i am in America really? No job easy like dey one wey we dey for Naija o! I stayed 3 good months in Atlanta and couldn’t hold down a job and i have just 3 more months to fix my life in America! That evening i made plans to move to Texas! i heard i could find jobs easily there! So i decided to move, talked with my Uncle in Texas about coming over and he agreed! Next move – i gotta hold down a job for good! Kicking myself right now! i made grave mistakes in Atlanta and will not forgive myself!

See you next in my third city – Texas!!!
Re: Americana Boy....no Be Here!!! by Afroprince(m): 6:05pm On Oct 19, 2018
I will tell you about my trip to Texas in a short while but after i tell u about my friend who after reading my story so far….texted me to remind me of him…lol! Wow how could i have forgotten you of all people…Ikenna! He was my very good pal from secondary school! We went for our recreations together but he found his way to the US after our secondary school and now a big boy in Connecticut! I actually landed in New Haven and he journeyed down to see me! And he took me out and we had a nice time and he recalled how became what he is now…A nurse in the US earning some cash! We got home and my wifey treated us to some delicious African meal and he told me that America ain’t easy o but if i get my papers that i will be fine. He said the only way was to marry but hey! i’m already married to a lovely woman! so i did not take that serious….so we moved on and that was it!

Then i got into a chat with an old friend of mine, when i learnt how to chat initially…lol! it was like 17 years then and she invited me to Georgetown which was like 4hrs away from Atlanta so i promised to come over anytime i hit Atlanta. Fast Forward to my time in Atlanta….Gina finally came to pick me from South Carolina, Georgetown to be precise and i met uncle Emeka who was ever supportive for me to be successful in America, as he took the responsibility of sending money to my wifey back home so i can focus on the hustle in America…He gave me $100 and asked me to be careful in South Carolina which i nodded to and vamoosed with Gina and her daughter. Meanwhile she told me of her challenges in getting water and i told her i am used to that in Nigeria. So we arrived Georgetown and Gina was really tired and i gave her a path in the back!

That evening we went out for dinner and ate a really nice food and we chatted all night long! She promised to sort me out if i can stay longer, honestly Gina was a nice woman but I was married and did not just agree to stay for long. The next evening we went visiting a famous place in Georgetown and she told me about how the place came about and i was so so fascinated on how organised Georgetown was and was contemplating getting a job there and stay put but i was enchanted about Atlanta and just refused to think smart! We visited Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, Pawley Island, Morgans Park, Georgetown Harborwalk – these are places that I will never forget in my life time! Georgetown was a place to be – I miss us so much Gina! I messed up, i would have just stayed with you! Damn, i am married if not i would have just settled with Gina and live a blissful life! Baby…i did this because of you! baby you can never tell how much i cherish us!!!

I headed back to Atlanta but Gina was not happy with me and i knew it! If you ever read my note, find it in your heart to forgive me and reach out to me! Now i have to move to Texas, so i was focused on hitting it big in Texas…ah-ah Naija boy don suffer for this town o!

Aww! Been a long while I wrote, wanna thank all the people who encouraged me to write this, to everyone that gave me a shout on twitter, Facebook and also encouraged me to put it on instagram – Thanks to everyone especially a fan “Lexypratt” thanks dude you encouraged me not to stop – heeded to your advice, been telling you we will hit Texas the next time I am on here! So Texas we go! As the old saying goes “what happens in Texas, stays in Texas!Seemed to be the beginning of my journey to the Dee Sam’s country, I arrived Texas on a sunny afternoon and the weather was awesome, I knew immediately good things are bound to happen. So my uncle already booked s an uber for me so I hopped in and the dude gave me stories about Texas though he disappointed when I finally called him after a long while though! So I arrived and met Uncle Ndume who was told about my arrival, he was welcoming very much and was a new arrival too so our journey just jeiled…he took me down to African restaurant around and took some bottles of drink and peppersoup ah! Naija way!

In the evening my uncle came back from work….its been upto 17years since I saw him last, he welcomed me and told me Naija is so horrible and that I should make up my mind to stay. He told me to look out for jobs and make myself at home, So the next day we went out for a job and yes o! we got the job and was gonna start work the next day! I was so excited at last Obi is working! Lol, the job to only permitted us to work from 6pm to 6am and the first day was good but very stressful! So we had to do this job thrice in a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So the first week finished successfully and the paid us…was so happy! At least I have earned lol! The next week I was looking out to continue but alas we joined the wrong bus and when we realized it was already late for our resumption but we went and tried but to my dismay we were never allowed to continue…that was the second time so our appointment was terminated on the spot! It was a very painful experience, we have lost the job wey I dey happy for! Omor that was my first welcome to America….my eye done clear! So we went shopping for another job soon after!

Alas we got a 2nd job, this time I was so eager to be on time - before wetin for 1960 go happen again lol! So we moved to Uncle Ndume’s sister’s house. We actually arranged a car – ok Uncle Ndume arranged a car to be using it to drop us at work! Don’t ask me how we arranged papers joor! Uncle Ndume got a car and we were happy, at least motor issue don jump pass! Na to dey fire the car now be the issue! So it happened that the job is not anyhow permanent, we were expected to come in anytime there is a job, so we decided to be managing it till we get something better! So one day like that we got tired of the job cos it was not steady and guys body dey hot! So we called our agent and complained and he promised us a more permanent job soon….Meanwhile na Crowley Texas we dey go work all the way from Timberglen Texas that is 3hrs away from home, we had to go every week and come back just weekends! O yes! We finally got a new job – this was a more permanent job! We will do this job o! So we reported at the new job site and it was a job that had to do with plastics. We loved the job and we became friends with a lot of mates there and one faithful day the employee took out time to give us a treat for a job well-done! They got us some snacks and drinks and we had lots of fun not knowing that was my last fun in America. O boy na wrong timing joor but I go hola una how far we don waka for Texas – It was indeed a great time in Texas!!!

More gist dey but abeg if you wanna hear more….be encouraging me biko! At least comment! Make I know say ua dey follow my gist!

Well my people e be like say i go conclude my story here o! So when i got a permanent job, that was when i got shaken by sickness! Well i concluded within myself it was time to go back to Naija…yes o! that was the worst decision i took considering how i left Naija! But to an extent the best decision i took to stay alive and offer myself a repackaged Fado! Well i didn’t walk back to my job at Hot FM gallantly cos the company thought i shouldn’t have left in the first place, but God in his infinite wisdom granted me a return! It is going to be exactly one year i returned on the 7th of January 2019 but guys it has not been easy o! I got back when Naija don bad! People seem not to have too much money again! Adverts been hard to secure cos so many organisations are cutting down on their budgets, but God dey!

Well i didn’t tell you all these to feel sorry for me cos seriously God gat my back! Witnessed a lot of deaths lately in the media, TJ Mc my good friend is gone…recently Tosyn Bucknor died and i am still alive only cos God gat my back! My advice to anyone hoping to travel out of this country is to plan well and get ready for the worse! Where you are aiming to go to has already been occupied by others, so if you are going please ensure you are very well prepared cos nothing comes easy no matter how good the area is and if God does not support it nothing that you will work! Also you ensure you travel with money…do not depend so much on people! that was one of my major mistakes!

Hoping somebody will help when obviously everyone has their own problems and people out there may not be able to help you with every thing you need! I was lucky i got uncles i could stay in their homes for as much as i stayed for 6 months, most people may not be that lucky and some may also get luckier but for the whole travel i have made in this world – up to six other countries this was my most dysfunctional trip upon throwing away such an amount! I was so lucky to be back to Nigeria with my life and now i realize not everyone was happy that i had all i had in life! Enemies fought me a lot while i was away and i came back to see all i worked for gone! i am so lucky to have made the choices i made earlier by helping my mum buy a house and also building my own house otherwise i would have been in such a big soup! Virtually everything is gone in my life – my wife relocated to the same USA and my children are no longer with me – I stay all alone in a 4 bedroom bungalow praying each day that God forgives me for my earlier choices and restore me back completely!

Well happy at last! My radio job is still moving very well though it took me sometime to come back fully to the Fado i was known to be, getting my groove back! Soon i know that everyone that spoke badly and rudely to me cos i cannot meet up financially like i used to will look at me smile again! I remain ever willing to meet up and even conquer! Things are beginning to turn on fine again and i know it is just the beginning. Everyone that said a bad thing about me and hoped evil for me shall be disappointed cos i will come back stronger! When the Lord dwells with you nobody can stop you! I thank the Lord so much cos I know him better now and I know he is not finished with me! May the Lord grant you speed in all you wanna achieve as long as it is for good purpose and may he thwart every evil that has been planned against you. Believe in yourself and do not allow anyone put you down!
