Like Jos,like Benue.
OCTOBER 14 ยท PUBLIC
Like Jos, like Benue; Road to Rwanda pt2.
After the PDP primary elections cum convention held at the Eagle Square,Abuja,2011. Cautions were thrown to the wind by some political gladiators, that vehemently promised to make the country "UNGOVERNABLE" due to unfavorable outcomes of the PDP convention to them.
The colossal violence that took place in Jos,north central of Nigeria, was unprecedented and devastating. The carnage was some of the ugly incidents which took place prior to 2011 elections.
Off course, the author and finisher of "DO or DIE" politics was on ground to ensures that, the man from Otuoke emerged as winner of the 2011 election.
The turned out of events after declaring GEJ as the winner of the election, was unfortunate. The city of Jos was the choice location, to perpetuates such demonic acts. thousands of lives were lost and the political gladiators ensures this continues unabated.
Jos, was in the news on daily basis for the wrong reasons. The daily occurrence in terms of killings became a norm. The state Governor, Was not only helpless, but also incapacitated as a chief security officer of the state.
The local politics within the state also aggravated the crisis. The vampires like leaders capitalized on this and makes us all believes is was mere communal crisis.
Seven years down the line, the same scenario is at played at a different state, but same goe-political zone, nay North central. This Benue killings is coming at a time when election is just some few months away and there is no guarantee that, the elections will be peaceful.
The Benue killings,no doubt is a replica of Jos crisis some years ago and the same tactics is still be employed by these political gladiators in their quest to scored cheap political points at the expense of the harmless innocent citizens.
Our culture, is gradually, if not totally destroyed by the so called leaders in the name of gaining political power. Too many questions have been left unanswered and this seems to be a serious threat to our hard fought fledgling democracy.
We can't continues to sleeps on Security, health and education, if we desired to belongs to the top 20 economy nations in the world. No investor will be willing to invest in an chaotic environment, especially, when Security is a big issue.
The current dispensation, has a lot do in order to jealously to protect and preserved our hard fought fledgling democracy. We can no longer accept the barbaric, satanic and demonic acts again in our beloved country.
The people must have assurance and complete faith in government in terms of the discharges of its primary duty of protect their welfare. Its Paramount to note that, the incessant killings in Benue has been highly politicised by the political elites.
The government, no doubt will have bring his 'A' game and all hands must be deck in tackling this menaces to restored sanity to the villages in Benue state and by extension Nigeria.
Rwanda must no be allowed to happen in Nigeria. The agony of the Civil War is still be felt today. We don't deserved to go down that path again. We all have a responsibility of protecting our democracy.
Some of the feasible solutions government should employed are; addressing the porous nature of our borders in order to prevent illegal arms coming into the country. The customs officials are doing a great job,but there is room for improvement.
Likewise, the government should uphold the Rule of law, rather promoting the Rule of men. The constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria should be respect by the government and the governed to avoid taken us back to what Hobbes and Locke referred to as "state of nature"
Equity should be the watchword of the government in terms of allocating values in the society and the country at large. The inequality that exist in the geographic structure of the nation should also be addressed in order to prevent militias uprising in any region of the country.
Sincerity of purpose is necessary in achieving greatness and preserving our hard fought and earned fledgling democracy.
Without genuine intention to addressed the challenges, Rwanda may not be too far after all.
God bless our country, Nigeria
