Driver Licence - Help, I'm Stuck by rottenPussy: 3:06pm On Oct 21, 2018
So I started driving recently. And as required, I went for a driver's licence, but to my supprise, I was told by the people at the licencing office that I cannot get a licence immediately - not even a temporary.

I was instead given 2 sheets of stamped A4 paper with my photo and bio data written (with pen) on it, stating that my driver's licence is under processing. According to them, these sheets are to be used for the next 4 month (only within the state) before I am qualified for the proper registration.

The issue now is that I get stopped every now and then by the so called "Police" requesting for my licence. Everytime I tender the sheets, they go haywire, which has made driving frustrating and scary. The road safety officials does not query me though.

The clarification I need about this is that:
Is this how it is being done, or I am being played with (despite being their office)?
What happen to express processing of driver's licence?
Is there a particular way to approach police officers in this regard?

Pls help..

What was given to you was learner's permit. The process of driver's license is a long process, though you can do it yourself but not advisable because you might face some bottlenecks while doing it so, I advise you consult the service of an officer ( I am not one and I don't have any but that was how I got mine)

https://www.nigeriadriverslicence.org/new

You will need a test certificate number which can only be issued by a confirmed driving school. It takes 3months to get that though, you may know how to drive but you need that to get a driver's license. They cannot do any magic or fake it because they will have to register you and the result certificate will be ready in 3months.

Upon receiving the certificate, you will be able to register, go to VIO office to be tested and confirm the class to be issued, pay the required fee for registration then, you will be issued a temporary license to elapse in 3months. During this period, your license will be processed, it takes more than 6months sometimes to get the permanent but you can visit the FRSC office renewal of the temporary till your permanent is ready. That's the process

NB: Any express is FAKE. Yes, its FAKE. When you start the process you will understand better

I really appreciate your time towards the explanation. The explanation you gave par that which I got from the officers at FRSC. The issue however, is that the document given to be pending when the driving school certificate will be available, which shows that my licence is under processing is being condemned by some police officers. Now that I know the FRSC guys are following the due process, I know I have to hold my ground tight with the police officers..

damn no wonder african nations we lack
behind in progress

something like a driver's licence shouldnt take 3 or 6 months

then whats happens if i want to register a high tech company ?

in my native zimbabwe, for you to get a leaner's licence (provisional licence) aka leaner's you need to book 1st for the test @ VID (vehicle inspection department) the test is a theory exam if you pass you get a leaner's licence which is valued for year of which within a year from the date issued you must get your full licence other wise you to resit again to get another leaners licence. so technically it takes just few hours to get your leaners provided you passed the test

so after getting your leaners thats when you can actually start to learn to drive on road with your leaner's licence occupied by a full licence holder, you ethier learn via driving skol (the best option ) or other mean family friend etc

then when your instructor thinks your are ready you book for the practical test, if you pass you get your full licence, they give you the temporal paper one while the mental one gets processed (i dont know now but they should be plastic but they used to be metal even our ID check attached photos )

as for how long the metal took to
given to you am afriad i cant remember,

Please stop misleading people here.

The driving school certificate does not take up to 3 months @ all.

It takes between 28 to 30 working days. After which you will be invited for capturing and a temporary DL issued to the applicant.

I know someone who's been at the driving school certificate stage since July. It's no longer a one month thing.

A colleague of mine recently went for capturing after 30days of processing his driving certificate. This happened in Abuja.

Please inform your person to be sure about the Officer who is processing it. It could be that the Officer is yet to initiate the process of procuring the driving certificate, hence the delay or that the driving school in question is having some technical issues.

I've been using the temporary driver's permit since June waiting for capturing. I've even renewed the permit after the first 3 months expired. Now I have another one valid till January. This is in PH.

Baba, Naija is not organized, SIMPLE.

Yes, I agree we have not gotten there yet in Nigeria. But tell me, did it take up to 3 months to get this renewal done?

Moreover you do not really need to be captured if you are doing renewal except you want to change your profile picture.

Again, the topic under discussion is, does the processing of driving school certificate take up to 3months?

Can you recall when you were first issued your DL? How long did it take you to get captured?

They still take your biometrics when renewing your licence. If I may ask, does Nigeria conduct any form of driving test (theory or practical) on applicants or are they just required to wait for some weeks just to fill in the books before the licence is issued?

Go TO Umuahia, you will capture the same day or the next.

When folks talk about this, it actually sounds strange.

The day I submitted my cert and payment, I was to be captured but I was called back to the office, when I got back, my turn had been taken by someone else. That was a Wednesday. I was asked to come back the next day, I couldn't but went on Friday and I was captured and about 4mnths later, my license was ready after I had used the temporary for sometime

Well, from what I've noticed, it's obvious the situation varies in different States. I can't take because of Driver's License and start going to Umuahia na. The driver's permit is service the road use for the moment.

A question I will like to ask; must someone go and learn how to drive in driving school before driver's license could be issued out to him/ her? What if I have a friend that's willing to teach me how to drive, will I not be given driver's licence even after being confident to drive well?
