Let me try to explain what he means by the above statement...Nigeria is a developing nation with lots of infrastructural projects (structural and highway) presently going on, as a civil engineer who knows his onions, you will never be out of job ( I am a civil engineer and I got a job with a multinational company 17 days after my POP) I believe that explains why civil engineering comes first... with regards to the electrical guys, every company or establishment needs an electrical engineer, be it a bank, school or what have U and same applies to the computer engineer, so it is easy to secure jobs with these degrees and u can also go into private practice if u want to...courses like petroleum engineering is to streamlined in the sense that if u are not able to secure a job with an oil company, u are on ur own except u choose to go teach chemistry in one of those private schools in ur vicinity, chemical engineering is broad but Nigeria as a country isn't really into the process engineering thingy yet (P.S chemical and mechanical engineering are both on the same page, BROAD but not fully embraced in Nigeria)...this is my 10 cents though

You should also note that any discipline can work in an oil company, so u don't necessarily have to study petroleum or chemical engineering to work in an oil company cus I have come to realise that's one of the mistakes most young folks make.

Thanks sir. I'm a petroleum engineer albeit still serving. I have already started plans for changing career path via masters route even before reading this. Cheers
