An interesting thread hit FP on Sunday, 21st June, 2018 asking Nairalanders to give their experiences that made them believe God (the Christian god, Yahweh) is real

Here's a link to the thread https://www.nairaland.com/4800680/what-experience-made-believe-god

That thread sheds light on how empty and regular occurrences are seen as proof of God. experiences that can't stand even the most basic of scrutinies without falling like a pack of cards

On this thread I shall be selecting several of these "experiences" for scrutiny and expose its emptiness

So so many

But the fact that I see atheists around makes me believe that truly, God exists

This is as comedic as its nonsensical

what does this even mean? the atheists he sees around him pray to his god or existence of atheists prove his god exists?

I guess he's talking about the latter cuz I've seen lots of theists say that atheist's existence is proof of their god being real. having opposition to your imaginary friend doesn't make that friend real. A mad person having his visions countered by sane people doesn't make those visions real.

On 11th April 2014, on my way back after collecting my original University Certificate and put in my bag, I had a ghastly motor accident with an 18 Seaters bus. 15 passengers perished but I didn't die. The Road safety officers that recovered my bag had to snap with my certificate in celebration of my life. I endured some pains for like 3 months but if you see me today you can't believe that I have had accident before. It was only God who surprisingly saved me. People were dumbfounded till today.

Does the death of those 15 people prove God doesn't exist?

This is one of the many reasons why I have long maintained despite lip service to things like selflessness and humility, religions mostly function by providing an ego trip to people that allows them to cast aside a bigger picture of reality that they're not able to make sense of, and have a nice smaller picture, with them at the center, where what really matters are those things that happen to them.

So God is good because you survived an accident. It doesn't matter that 15 other people got killed. what matters in religion is ME - ME - ME - ME. Is there anything more self centered than believing Gawd singled you out for special protection while allowing so many others to suffer and die?

I guarantee you if we had a full on nuclear war that saw 90 percent of the world's population killed off, there would be among the survivors jackasses walking around talking about how great God is and how much he loves human beings because they survived, even while the survivors would be living through hellish conditions and dealing with all kinds of illnesses. That is the power of faith, the power of delusion.

Even atheist and humanist know that God exists. They are just confused. Have you been in a situation where sheet, I mean purge hold you like say you go die, I mean when you dey sweat and close you leg that you can't walk, then the sheet comes, about to drop, you hold it and it goes back to your stomach and you hear "pkruuuuuuum". Deep down their hearts they pray...
"Dear God, if you exist just save me from this sheet, I will doubt you again."
After that they tell you it was coincidence, God never existed

This person is projecting his thoughts into atheists, he prays to "god" in this situation so he assumes everyone, including atheists, do the same. even though he's never been an atheist let alone praying in this situation as one

I was down , depressed , broke and frustrated and one faithful day I faced one of the four corners in my room and cried and poured out my heart to the Lord and ever since them life has never been the same...

This sounds moving and would fit right in "testimony time" at churches. This person's story would be attended to by a huge round of applause

The logical mind who's happy he overcame his frustration can't help but wonder what would've happened if his frustrations persisted after "pouring his heart to the Lord". would Franzis have concluded his god doesn't exist? of course he most likely wouldn't. He'll simply move the goalposts by saying "God's time is best" "He works in mysterious ways" "God is teaching me a lesson with these frustrating challenges" "He's testing my faith in him". His god can never lose, can't fail. if he fails then failure is redefined and excused

Secondly, concluding praying to some god and getting what you want is proof of that gods existence might be committing the Post Hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy that you overcame after prayer doesn't mean the prayer is responsible

I had a Divine Visitation and afterward saw him in my dream in 2012... That night when he appeared, I called out to my mum in the dream that the world has ended with Christ appearance. We started praying for our sins.. I came out and had up to a minute view of him.. He actually appeared with some angels on both sides of him.. While I decided to look at the angels, a bright light shone on my face, then they disappeared leaving Christ alone.. I was looking at Christ while he looked at me as well.. I was dumbfounded.. He sat on a chair with his garment as white snow.. The whiteness of his hair and his garment were alike. And I have only seen that texture of his hair on one Chinese man.. He had side beard, all as white as a snow.. I can never forget that experience..

Mine is that - I entered a local restaurant in my area this afternoon & ordered 2 fufu with 2 curved ponmo (ponmo to ka) & 3 meats (eran to ni ishan).

The lady asked me what soup would I prefer between Egusi & Vegetables? I opted for Ewedu mixed with fried stew (ata dindin).

Lo and Behold! As I sat down to devour the meal, I held one of the Ponmo inside the plate of soup & began to stir it in an anti-clockwise motion with an average speed of 1.5 nautical miles per hour. grin

Guess what happened?

I swear to Shango - The soup immediately turned reddish green, and that was how the Lord revealed himself unto me. grin

So, children of God, please help me praise the Lord by shouting 3 nuclear, thunderous halleluyah. grin cheesy grin

Meaningless thread.

I believe the thread enjoined the believers to share experiences that had served to convince they themselves that GOD is real. Is this thread then trying to counter the fact that those experiences served to make those persons believe in God? That's nonsense. Except you're in the heads of those believers. The experiences make/made them believe that GOD is real because they said so!

Note that the thread did not ask them to bring "experiences that will make atheists believe God is real." The topic of the thread didn't even contain the word "proof" or "prove", which you have inserted in the OP. Perhaps the OP of that thread knew that some people are atheists not for lack of evidence that points to GOD but for reasons best known to them. After all Martin Rowson once told Giles Fraser of The Guardian that he(Martin) would remain an atheist even if GOD walked into the restraunt.

So, once again, pointless thread.

Okay everyone, this is just a tiny part of what is going to be written thoroughly and extensively in my book. The following are not detailed but clues

One of the ways I got to know that there is something which we term God which created everything is as follows

1. We are simply replicating what the creator have done. He created us and give us the ability to create us but I don't think mankind have ever ask the question why are we able to create things and what made us in such a way that we cannot do without creating.

2. There's only one purpose of mankind in this world and that's to worship God and if we look carefully, we are simply replicating what God have done when we create things and design them to do what we want them to do. For example, we create programs to achieve a certain tasks and that there will be no creation by purpose without purpose. Nobody in this world can create a gibberish without that gibberish having a purpose. We cannot eat without a purpose, we cannot jump without a purpose, our brains cannot watch without having a memory.

Do you call this a fantasy? No, it is what it is and that's the truth. If you call this a fantasy, then it is also a fantasy to say Good exist when we cannot see him because in this world, the only thing we believe in is what we can see. If I said you have HIV, you won't believe me until you go for a test to confirm, if I say there is a car in front of you, you won't believe me until you see the car in front of you, if I say you have a leg, you won't believe me until you see that leg. If I said I slapped you, you won't believe me until you see the motion.

Mind you, I believe in God. The difference between humans or anything created by nature is that one is created by the Master and the other is simply a replication of the model of what the master has already created. Why he is called the supreme being is that he created us in such a way as to be able to do everything he has done but we are simply imitating but can never reach his Greatness.

Another difference between humans and our own creation is that God created us in his infinite power in such a way that we can even defy his order and not do what he asked us to do.

A human is replicating what God did but his creation or invention can never do anything else other than his command. Our programs cannot hack into a database on its own if we program it to only display users profile, our cars can never start moving if we didn't program it to start moving on its own. A ship can never fly on its own when we created it only to be used in the water.

He created humans and animals and more nature, and we humans created robots as a replica of humans that he created us but we have never asked the question how the world was created in such a way that brought about us trying to create this things.

3. God will not need to show himself before we can agree he exist because a human doesn't need to prove to a code program or machine or any invention that he created that he was actually the one that created it. That's an absolute truth and it will not change whether the machine like it or not.

4. We have not asked ourselves why we cannot do without sleeping and also why our inventions cannot do without resting. Our cars cannot run for 100 years even without resting, even our computer program must have a stage whereby they rest and this happened when there is no trigger that makes them to execute an action. A cpu cannot handle intensive computation for a year without resting I
during the interval.

5. Our brains perform cannot think of two thing at the same time without context switching but mankind have never ask himself how the world came about to a stage that just brought about invention just like the brain but cannot do two things at the same time also. The way our brains performs context switching is due to mastery of the supreme being in that it's so fast but we still cannot think of one thing at the same without the thought of another thing else.

Our machines cannot do two things talk less of three things at the same time, a car cannot move forward and backward at the the same time. Our Android phones keyboard cannot input two alphabet at the same time without one coming first before the other. A video in single window cannot play two videos at the same time, we have to stop and play another at the same window.

Again, I am a wanna be what mankind call philosopher but what in effect I want to become is the one who explains nature, the essence of existence and the what, why, how and where.

RELIGIOUS BRAINWASH IS SO STRONG THAT IT NEVER OCCURS TO THE RELIGIOUS PERSON THAT HE COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE NEXT PERSON'S SHOES.

THE CHRISTIAN BELIEVES HIS RELIGION IS THE TRUTH. (A CATHOLIC SAYS PROTESTANTS ARE GETTING IT ALL WRONG)

THE JEW BELIEVES ONLY HIS RELIGION IS THE RIGHT ONE . AND SO DOES THE MUSLIM.

NOBODY THINKS ABOUT WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN IF THEY HAD BEEN BORN TO DIFFERENT PARENTS.
AND TO EVERY RELIGIOUS PERSON THE RELIGION/GOD OF THE FAMILY THEY WERE BORN INTO TURNS OUT TO BE THE RIGHT ONE. HOW THOUGHTFUL OF GOD TO ARRANGE MATTERS LIKE THAT.

THINK ABOUT IT LIKE THIS...
ASSUMING ISLAM IS THE TRUE RELIGION, AND GOD, WORKING IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS AS WE KNOW, REFUSES TO SHOW HIMSELF TO PUT A MARK ON THE TRUE RELIGION WHICH IS ISLAM, OTHER RELIGIONS WOULD HAVE DIED OFF NATURALLY HUNDREDS OF YEARS AGO.. BECAUSE GOD WOULD ONLY GIVE BABIES TO MUSLIM FAMILIES, AND ONLY ISLAM WOULD BE STANDING BECAUSE PEOPLE FROM OTHER RELIGIONS WOULD HAVE ALL DIED OFF WITH NO OFFSPRINGS.
BUT THEN GOD KEEPS GIFTING BABIES TO PEOPLE FROM EVERY RELIGION, WHERE THEY'D GROW UP AND BELIEVE IN THE HUNDREDS OF GODS THAT THEIR PARENTS WORSHIP.
SO IT'S EITHER GOD IS COMFORTABLE WITH ALL THE DIVISION (IN THIS CASE CHRISTIANS SHOULD FORGET ABOUT THE NEED TO CONVERT PEOPLE SINCE BY GOD'S STANDARDS EVERYBODY IS RIGHT)
OR HE'S NONEXISTENT AND IT'S JUST HUMANS MAKING THINGS UP AS THEY GO.

IT'S JUST SO MUCH EASIER TO FOOL PEOPLE THAN TO CONVINCE THEM THAT THEY'RE BEING FOOLED.

LET ME LEAVE THIS QUOTE BY MARK TWAIN HERE.
