Why Are Most "Okadas" Without Mirrors Anylonger? by 3Dee(m): 11:35am On Nov 01, 2018
In the last few months that I moved to Lagos, I have noticed this trend of "Okadas"-commercial motorcycles not having mirrors.
Most of these motorcycles ply highways and it's quite dangerous.
Are motorcycles designed now not to have this safety requirements?

I raised a very salient point but we don't care for safety in this part of the world. Someone even called it jargons. na wa o

How is it 'jaggon' (whatever that means)?

OP raised a very important safety issue, IMO. I've been wondering about this issue myself. Less than 1%of d bikes you see have mirrors and nobody cares.

While riding you notice they have to TURN THEIR HEADS around in order see what's behind which is dangerous.

It's God that's saving us.

Not only in Lagos, is everywhere, even my small Ondo town here.

Oyinbo that manufactured the motorbikes attached mirrors for safety , but we Nigerians removed them.

We also turn the head lamps up to the sky, you see the ray at night towards the sky.

They reduce the lenght of the steering/handle so they can easily maneuver between cars in traffic(i asked one of them) .

They also raise their seats high and anytime they apply brakes, you slide forward and you shift back again/ladies that carry will hit them from behind charging the riders.

They also attach mp3 players with loud speaker, so embarrassing.

They fix siren and annoying horns.

These guys will never sit straight on their bikes, they bend, looking back at their exhaust as they fire on high speed.

Some even sit on their fuel tanks despite carrying no one.

Some wearing slippers will hold it with the tip of their toes, then press their pedal with nothing.

They overtake from left, right, centre, anytime and anywhere.

If they hit your car, they dont have money. They kneel/postrate begging if you're a man.

If they hit a woman's car, 100 bikes will gather in 10seconds, attacking/blaming the woman. But some women are crazy.

Okada....Hmmmmmm

It's really appalling seeing these Okadas ride with reckless abandon. It seems our law enforcement agencies have been compromised.

@Seun
@lalasticlala

This needs to get to the appropriate authority.
Thanks everyone for your inputs so far

They remove them because they don't feel comfortable with the side mirrors and also because of easy manoeuvrability in traffic.

Many crazy things they do. The new trend of fixing extra bright halogen LED light is another headache to worry about. Those light literally "blind" the approaching road users and nobody cares about it.
I ve personally sent messages to our useless FRSC but till now nothing has been done. And if someone calls for their total ban, pple will say it heartlessness.
