1. India has unveiled the world's tallest statue, which cost £330 million, $430m, 29.9bn rupees.
2. The giant bronze statue, known as the Statue of Unity, is almost twice the height of the Statue of Liberty in New York, making it the tallest in the world, That makes the mega statue almost 200 feet higher than the world's next largest, the Spring Temple Buddha in China, which stands at about 420 feet. The new statue in India is also nearly twice the height of the Statue of Liberty, which is 305 feet tall.
3. It resembles Sardar Patel, who is known as one of the heroes of India's independence movement.
4. it took 3,500 workers four years to construct the statue.
5. Tribal chiefs also say that the project involved a land-grab that affected 72 nearby villages, which forced thousands out of their homes.
6. British Conservative MPs have recently condemned the construction, after official figures revealed that Britain donated over £1 billion to India while the country was spending £330 million on the building.

8. But it won't remain the world's tallest statue for long. The government in the western state of Maharashtra is constructing a memorial to the Maratha warrior king Shivaji that is estimated to be 190m tall.
9. The Statue of Unity weighs about 67,000 tonnes and has been built to withstand major earthquakes as well as heavy winds.
10. The monument and its surroundings occupy more than 20,000 sq metres, encompassed by a 12 sq km artificial lake.
11. Around 12,000 bronze panels were used in the exterior, weighing almost 1,850 tonnes.
