So I had this long discussion with my parents regarding my recent desperation to travel despite my comfortable life here. So they were of the opinion that the guy with a good Job in Nigeria is better off, will save more money, do better things than the guy over there.

So my bro and I came up with this analysis after some research.

So I want the house to please verify this.

Statistically,
The average IT guy in USA earns around $5000 a month, spends $2,000 out of it on his monthly expenses and saves $3,000 Which is X 1.5 his monthly expenses

Whereas, the Average skilled IT guy in Nigeria earns around $400 a month but commensurately spends $100 on his monthly expenses and saves $300 which is X3 his monthly expenses

If they both stop working after a year, the US guy can only fend for 18months without pay while the guy in Nigeria can fend for 36 months without pay

Also, the Nigerian guy can easily start a life and build his career than his US counterpart.

How true?

Everything about your "analysis" is wrong.

No IT expert in Nigeria spends $100 on monthly expenses, that's just about 35k which isn't even enough to fuel your car if you don't live so close to where you work. There's still food, electricity bills, generator fueling, rent (assuming you're not living with your parents) and so on... So that so called $400 is not even enough for monthly expenses. I also strongly doubt that a real IT expert in Nigeria earns less than 200k which is over $500, though it's still a small amount of money.

The American I.T. guy is better off biko. There's no argument about that. Go there and you can build a house in Nigeria within 3 years of hardwork, not here that a graduate will be struggling to buy Toyota Camry 1999 model because government has decided to tax the living daylight out of car imports.

If you have the chance to go to US and you are busy deceiving yourself here with analysis, my brother you must be suffering from Buhariarisis.

A real IT person will definitely spend more than $100. Monthly

Unlimited internet connection $60
Electricity @5 litres per day $60
Feeding @ N100 per meal without a family will equal $25
Rent 1 room apartment equals $25 monthly. This is in a low cost area

Now imagine the person is married and living in any part of Lagos, do the maths yourself.

Chairman abeg wake up.

no dey compare sleep and death.

Though a serious minded IT expert can start building his house earlier than the USA guy. Cos The USA guy needs some years to adjust and stabilize. But in the long run, the US guy is a winner.

So now it comes down to who can first start building? Shouldn't it be about owning period?.... and who do you think will first own their house?....no mortgage? In the long run....all things being equal...thE US guy may...may be better off...but should he be laid off which is always looming. ..even for a short while..he is screwed for a longggg time...and can even lose 'his home'...failure to pay mortgage....bank repossess.....failure to pay property tax....City seizure.....unlike the Nigerian guy....who would be languishing in his house selling pure water until he lands another job!

While what you said about the Nigerian IT guy is true...you only looked at one direction...you can easily make over 5k as an IT expert in US...but then the savings of 3k on a 5k budget is very tight if not impossible. Funny enough some of them are indebted.
