Cool2Vote Nigeria is a non-partisan platform aimed at informing and giving a voice to young Nigerians about their civic responsibility in the electoral process. It is by extension a platform for mobilising all Nigerians to REGISTER to vote, VOTE at the polls, and DEFEND their votes at the 2011 elections and beyond.

At Cool2Vote Nigeria, we believe it is the power of ideas and the moral authority to execute them, not money or tribe that should be voted for in elections. Therefore, Cool2vote Nigeria in collaboration with Webetcetera, has developed cool2vote.org, which intends to become the best informed place online, where young people can learn about the issues and obtain relevant guidance before casting their ballots.

Check them @ http://www.cool2vote.org/.

ON Monday, Ibadan, the university-town capital of Oyo state will rumble with the heavy sounds of top Nigerian musicians. The musicians will be lending their voices and rhythms to the Cool2Vote Nigeria Campaign as part of the RockDavote Mega Jam 2010.

Scheduled to hold at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, the event is a voter-awareness and sensitisation concert being staged in collaboration with Storm Records, Chocolate City Music, Empire Mates Entertainment, Fashie Fizzie, Adstrat BMC, Rise Networks, The Save Nigeria Group, among others. It will feature live music performances from such artistes as Omawumi, Sound Sultan, Ajuju, Naeto C, Rooftop MCs, Gbenga Adenuga, Banky W, General Pype, Kel, Wizkid, Skales, Mtrill, Sasha, Ice Prince, Sauce Kid, Wordsmith among others.

Organisers say the event will help send the right message to all Nigerians on voting. gWe are very optimistic that it will help send the right message across to Nigerians of all generations that it is cool to vote and more importantly that it is our civic responsibility to register to vote and cast our votes for our chosen candidates.”

National Coordinator of the campaign, Fi’ammari Machar Zoaka hints that the concert is not going to be all about music. “Though we are employing the use of pop culture to deploy our message to Nigerians, it is important to note that the ideology behind this concert is a serious one. For five decades, Nigeria has wandered in the wilderness of socio-political and economic deprivation. We have had enough! This is about the power of youth and our ability to redirect our nation towards national greatness. In between the performances, there will be short speeches by Kevin Pam (Big Brother Africa), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Chief Dele Momodu and Mr. Donald Duke focused on the theme: 2011: Why the Youths Must Vote.

“Also, we have a surprise unveiling for Nigerians as we are getting set to premiere I Go Vote,  We have some of Nigeria’s finest artistes on this song from Timi Dakolo, Mtrill, Sound Sultan, Skuki, to Mbuk Iyanya, Wizkid, Skales, Kel, Wordsmith, and Lami Philips among others. The song was produced by Magege Theophilus (Ex-O) a young Nigerian producer who like all the artistes on this song, volunteered his talent to make this happen. The song promises to be one of the music industry’s biggest collaborations of the year,” Fi’ammari said.

Fi’ammari disclosed that the campaign is not endorsing any political aspirant or political party though individual coalition members are free to support their preferred parties and candidates. gThe Cool2Vote Nigeria campaign is a not-for-profit, non-partisan coalition of Nigerian celebrities, young professionals and political leaders aimed at inspiring and mobilising young Nigerians of voting age to register to vote, vote at the polls, and protect their votes at the 2011 elections and beyond,h he said.

The campaign which was founded in April, recently hosted the Global Social Media Conference on Electoral Reforms and Good Governance online at www.cool2vote.org in May, featured Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Mr. Fredrik Galtung, Chief Dele Momodu, Ms. Funmi Iyanda, Prof. Pat Utomi and Pastor Tunde Bakare as guest bloggers.

We have to start sometime and utlimately, somewhere. While arm-chair criticisms are encouraged, we are should start (for those who haven't started) contemplating participating actively in the events leading up to, and eventually the 2011 general elections. Nigeria is what we make it.
I saw the links and decided to share them here; I like the youth touch to it!

I tell you people are really exploiting the ideas that are shared on this Nairaland.

The beauty of this excersize is that it will not be your old boring political event. People will be gathered to enjoy real entertainment and then from their the message about the need to vote will be spread.

Then the powerful images of large crowds from around the country from these events will make headline news on newspapers.

The story of young people seizing their own future will encourage parents to support the aspirations of their kids.

Thats how people create movements.

And like Obama will say, when ONE VOICE stands up!, another Stands up!! it can shake a room, when it shakes a room it can shake a state, when it shakes a state it can shake a Nation. The pillars of PDP could be trembled.

Your Voice Can Change the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ Mikeansy and Aisha2: The facilitators of the event have set something in motion, as have other well-meaning Nigerians across the globe. What remains is mass.
And PDP might not even see this coming.

This is the very kind of cynicism that has kept us where we are.
