Paseda Pledges To Strengthen Traditional Institution In Ogun

The governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun State, Otunba Rotimi Paseda has assured traditional rulers in the state of his readiness to strengthen the traditional institution if elected come 2019.

Paseda said the era, where the executive arm of government declined the traditional rulers involvement in policy making and implementation would become a thing of the past.

He stated this at the weekend during his state-wide tour to Igbesa where he met with Igbesa Council of Chiefs in Ado/Odo Ota local government area of Ogun State.

The Ijebu-born Prince maintained that, if elected as governor of the state in 2019, traditional rulers will no longer take instructions from commissioner for Chieftaincy affairs.

He noted that, during the Western region government led by late Obafemi Awolowo, royal fathers played a vital role in policy making of governance.

The SDP governorship candidate however, promised to improve the welfare of traditional institution in the state to enable them perform their role of building communal peace and harmony.

"The kings must not bend down for any governor. It is against Yoruba culture. It is only in Ogun State that our traditional rulers have been rubbished by the executive.

"As a Prince from Omu-Ijebu kingdom because I know how revered the traditional stool is; I promise you that, if I'm elected as governor in 2019, monarchs in the state will no longer take instructions from the commissioner for Chieftaincy affairs. Our royal fathers will no longer bend to greet the governor again.

"I want to return government to the Awolowo era where traditional rulers were given roles to play in policy making and implementation of the government. If we want our communities to develop, we must involve the monarchs in all government policies".

Addressing students of Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, Otunba Paseda reiterated his commitment to provide free education across levels, saying education is the bedrock of human development.
