Desperation is the state of Hopelessness. It is a situation where one, finding himself/herself in a seemingly hopeless condition feels compelled to do almost if not anything and everything supposedly possible to get out of the said condition.
The OALD (8th edition) suggests that desperation is the state of feeling or showing no hope and ready to do anything without worrying about danger to yourself and to others.
Inspired by hopelessness or a great semblance of it, desperation often leads one to make sudden, reactive (as opposed to proactive) medicine-after-death moves to solve a crises, to find solution to a problem. When one becomes desperate, he/she begins to do some very funny things in a not very funny manner. Here's a scenario:
A lady in her early thirties, yet to be in a healthy romantic affair let alone married, is desperate to have a child. She out of desperation approaches a young man, a coworker with whom alone she shares an office and makes her intention of having a baby, particularly his baby known to him.
The guy, twenty-nine, on the other hand, for personal reasons is opposed to the lady's proposition and would not give into her demand. She continues to put pressure on him, demanding to pay him a visit in his place of abode.
This said lady goes further to...
