INTRODUCTION
Mrs Folorunsho Alakija is currently the richest woman in Nigeria and third richest black woman in the World (with net-worth of $1.7 Billion) after Oprah Winfrey (USA) and Isable Dos Santos (Angola).

She is heavily involved in the Oil, Fashion, Printing and Real Estate Industries and is the Executive Vice-Chairman of FAMFA Oil Limited. A company that owns 80% of OPL 216 (an Oil block deep offshore the Gulf of Guinea).

She is a devout Christian and even a Minister of the Gospel. All of her Success, she has attributed to the Almighty God as you will see in this exposition, she is indeed a product of Tenacity, Hard-work and Grace.



BIRTH AND EARLY YEARS
Mrs Folorunsho Alakija was born on Sunday, July 15th, 1951 to the family of Chief L. A. Ogbara in Ikorodu, Lagos state. She is Eighth of Fifty Two children.


EDUCATION AND CAREER
Mrs Alakija traveled to the United Kingdom for her Primary Education at the Dinorben School for Girls in Wales.

Upon completion, she returned back to Nigeria when she proceeded for her Secondary education at Muslim High School in Sagamu, Ogun State. Upon successful completion of her secondary education, her father sent her to Pitman's Central College in the UK to read Secretarial Studies, against her wish of becoming a Lawyer.

The obedient daughter that she was, she went, finished successfully, came back to Nigeria in 1974 and got a job at Sijuade Enterprises Lagos, as Executive Secretary. She later got a job with Fin Bank (now FCMB) where she rose to position of Head of Corporate Affairs.

Internal Politics within the bank and seeming relegation because of her lack of University degree led her to leave the bank and pursue after her long time passion - FASHION.


BUSINESS
Before now, she had already been designing fantastic Fashion wares for Elite members of the Society.

Upon her resignation from the bank, she decided to focus on it and take her Fashion Designing skill a notch higher, so in agreement with her husband, she traveled to the United Kingdom to study Fashion Designing at the Central School of Fashion, situated in London.

It is important to say that at this time, she had already given birth to her Four children - Folarin, Rotimi, Dele and Ladi Alakija. Her husband agreed to let her go to the UK only on the condition that she took along the youngest two sons. She agreed and of they went.

Upon successful completion of her study and coming back to Nigeria, she immediately established her own Fashion house - SUPREME STITCHES. Her clothing designs where so creative, they were demanded and worn by the High and Mighty of Nigeria at that time.

Exactly three weeks after launching her fashion house 'Supreme Stitches', she was awarded 'Fashion Designer of the Year'. This was a National Award in 1986.

Her clientele began to grow and not long after, she started making clothes for Mariam Babangida. First Lady and wife of the President of Nigeria at that time - Ibrahim Babangida.
