I subscribed to mtn extra value bundle on 13/11/18, little did how know that that decision will bring me so much grief.

Now comes the problems.
After the subscription, the next midnight I got a text message that says

"Your bundle has been renewed successfully and N500 deducted. U have N500 and 499MB. Expires 2018-11-21. Bal: *559*61# or *123*2# to cancel auto renewal."

I was horrified because i did not ask for auto renewal when i was subscribing. I tried cancelling the auto renewal by typing *123*2# as adviced by the mtn text message, that did not work to cancel the auto renewal.

20 minutes after the 1st auto renewal i got a text that a 2nd auto renewal has been successful and 500 naira has been deducted from my account.

I tried cancelling the auto renewal again through several means without success.

2 days later on 16.11.18 another auto renewal was done by mtn and an additional 500 naira was deducted from my account. That made a total of 1500 naira deducted from my account in 2 days by mtn without my consent.

The last 500 naira deduction reduced my credit balance to less than 500 naira, i was hoping that once there is no sufficient money in my account, the auto renewal nonsense will stop due to insufficient funds in the account, i was grossly mistaking. Immediately the fund in my account went below 500 naira, the real harassment from mtn started in form of unsolicited text messages.

I have now received a total of 142 text messages from mtn in 4 days from mtn saying

"Dear Customer, you have insufficient airtime to Renew your bundle. Please recharge now to renew your bundle. Thank you!"

This is very frustrating. I got 6 of the messages while writing this.

They dont give me the option to opt out of the stupid data bundle.
Calls to mtn customer service on the issue has been useless so far as different mtn customer service agent prescribe different solutions that has not worked.

Has anyone got this type of problem before, how was it resolved?
I am not prepared to load credit on that account for mtn to swallow.

Why is NCC allowing mtn to roll out service that traps people into losing money to mtn without a clear means of exiting the service?

And why does mtn think it is a good business model to entrap their customers.

I really feel bad about this.

I have spoken to several of their customer care agents without the issue being resolved.

Moreover I did not go to customer care to subscribe, why do i have to go to customer care to unsubscribe?

Why did they not make easy to unsubscribe just as it is easy to subscribe

sorry bro. when MTN was deducting my money like that about 3years ago, I just bought another sim and left that one jejely. they were the one's that gave me free mb before I started using it again. if Glo or Airtel network is good where you are, just buy there sim for 50ngn.afterall,they offer cheaper data bundles.
