If Jonathan deceived himself, he could not deceive Nigerians. He should ask his boss Obj about the true copy of recession in Nigeria. Recession set in 2014 when Jonathan spent more than what he generated as revenue since 2014.
Has he forgotten before he left FAC has been reduced to #250billion, Fuel has risen to #250 per litre, Dollar was above #250. He should not falsify facts

So please educate me how obasanjo was able to keep the dollar at $165 or there about when crude oil price had gone down and the military had basterdized our foreign reserves.

ask yourself how much of importation was Nigerians doing by then. can u compare d demand for foreign exchange that was then with what is obtainable now? theory of demand nd supply should give you the answer. everybody in this country now is an importer. Check the activities at the sea ports. when the country can't manufacture most of the goods they consume or the rate at which they produce is not commensurate with the demand they import, and you need FX. again u are bringing these goods at a price that is already above the cost price Into the country cus the importer has to make profit. brother there are a lot of variables, some of these things it's better to explain verbally for me. the present government has their challenges based on current realities,

And before I forget, this six factors contributes to GDP growth as google is your friend.

1.Natural resources(this is why we called for restructuring so all states can harness they God given resources for better standard of living)

2.physical and capital infrastructure. ( in this area buhari tried as he is completing most project initiated by previous government, government is continium)

3.population or labor.

4.Human capital development. (this administration has failed in this area)

5.Technology.Buhari didn't, even go there.

Brother In reality you have less import from our seaport now compared to the time obasanjo/Jonathan was there because of the ban on several items.the major problem is not really import but capital flight has many investors have lost confidence in this government policies.

Nigerians must decide now if we want a free and fair elections.

If we want a free and fair elections, then a neutral Nigerian NOT Buhari's blood cousin should be CHAIRMAN OF INEC.

TROOPS & MILITARY UNITS must NEVER enter Polling stations or vote collation centers.

Their job is security and not collude with INEC officials falsifying results

Jonathan blame Obama for his failure in 2015.
Jonathan blame governors for his failure in 2015.
Jonathan blame jiga, then inec chairman for his failure in 2015.
Jonathan fail weofully in infrastructure, power, education even in otueke his home town.
Under Jonathan, Nigeria was made a dumping ground of foreign waste in spoons, pot and what have you.
Talking of propaganda, pdp and apc use it to convince the electorates,is not only apc that propagate.

There were lots of corruption and indiscipline in Jonathan's tenure. Mrs Maduekwe probably became a billionairess on his watch! And also made others mega rich

The Boko Haram conflict grew to monstrous proportions because Dasuki was more interested in the spoils of office rather than bring the insurgents to their knees. The lack of weapons and the so called excuse that it takes forever to acquire weapons held no water. You can buy lots of weapons from private arms merchants at the snap of a finger. Soldiers were being blown to smithereens for heaven's sake! They are humans as well! It was heartrending. For the respected Economist magazine to call them clueless, it must have seen something

His write up that APC with their bad mouth brought about a recession is also inaccurate. It was the senseless and uneconomic pegging of the Naira by Buhari upon his assumption of office rather than continue with the floating exchange rate he inherited brought about the severe recession . Buhari's pegging was the height of economic illiteracy and could only get away with the act because he had a pliant Emefiele at the helms at the CBN. Were it to have been Sanusi, he would have been shown the door!

Utomi, Soludo and Sanusi especially were unrelenting in condemning the peg! Countries have been fleeing a pegged exchange rate or a tight band to the dollar following the lessons learnt in Mexico in 1994, Thailand Malaysia and Indonesia in 1997, Brazil in 1999, Argentina in 2001 and so on. For those countries mentioned it took months of careful planning before pegging. For Buhari he did his within 2 weeks of assuming office! I immediately wrote off the economy!

Any any of these countries you mentioned us, china etc. Government policies always stimulate growth in the population. How many people in Nigerian that have bright ideas are bouyant enough to start their own business. We know that a large amount of people in this category are basically youth. They need government support with banks encouraged to give loans to young entrepreneurs atlow interest rate. But I forget our are not strong enough has they, ve been basterdized by implementation of TSA all in one swoop. The government therefore has to do it alone through CBN.

2. natural resources is an area where u will start blaming Gawon and every individual that followed him, up to Buhari, equally, if u want to be objective. they have made the country over reliant on Oil, forgetting to develop other natural resources, lit Tin, Ore, Agriculture nd a host of others.

He spoke about diversification but we all know his own idea about diversification is agriculture. As the resources in the north cannot be touched. What happened to the discovery of gold in kaduna.

3. issues like Technology you will have to be specific in what ways he has not done anything. remembering that state owned firms are not much again, cus they were sold under OBJ. I will understand government policies if u argue towards that line,

Tell his minister of science and technology to start performing. Most of this technology companies can be invited to Nigeria to start building plants here then you would see development in technology.

@POLITICSNGR

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has stated that Nigeria's economy slipped into recession after he left office because of the "Malicious Propaganda" deployed by the All Progressives Congress, APC. he claims that it tore the country's economy to 'Shreds'.

Jonathan wrote this is his newly launched book 'My Transition Hours'. PoliticsNGR gathered that Jonathan also wrote that the narrative of inheriting an empty treasury was false.

“Recall that the opposition and their sympathisers and campaigners, both local and international, with their malicious propaganda, tore our economy to shreds, threatened our stability and existence as a nation and intimidated our citizens, all in the bid to take over power.

Rather than forge a coalition and build on the momentum we had gathered when they eventually took office, they went on a persecution spree and vengeance mission. That the country slipped into recession soon after we left office was a self-inflicted injury caused by misplaced priorities. The narrative of inheriting empty treasury is a blatant lie.

Also, the excuse of the collapse of world crude prices does not hold water. This is because the Fourth Republic took off in 1999 with crude oil selling for less than $20 per barrel and a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth at 0.58 per cent, according to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) figures. Yet, the economy maintained a steady growth from that year, peaking at 15.33 per cent in 2002 when the average crude oil price was about $25.

It is also instructive that the oil and gas sector constitute about 11 per cent of our GDP. There had to be a wider causative factor than just the fall in world crude prices.

“It also amounts to standing facts on their heads to continuously claim that recession was caused by so-called mindless looting. The truth is that the opposition, in a bid to undo our government, became its own undoing when it got to power, because of the burden of justifying deliberate misrepresentations.

There is wisdom in the saying that if you win a prize and get the crown, don’t go around destroying the person who previously held that prize; it will lose its value.

Even after winning the election and forming the government at the centre, the blame game continued. When two brothers fight to death, it is the neighbour that inherits their father’s wealth. And we have seen neighbouring nations like the Republic of Benin and Ghana reaping from the capital flight out of Nigeria.”

He said with the calibre of people he had in his government, no one could say they were clueless.

“Just consider that my minister of state for health, Dr Muhammed Ali Pate, is now a professor at America’s Duke University, as well as a Senior Adviser to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation based in Washington DC. My minister of Agriculture, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, is now the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

My Co-ordinating minister, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, is the chairperson of the Board of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) and the African Risk Capacity (ARC). She also sits on the board of Twitter and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, just as she is a Senior Adviser at Lazard and a Director at Standard Chartered Plc in the United Kingdom, amongst others.

My minister of communication technology, Dr. Omobola Johnson, is currently chairperson of custodian and Allied Insurance Limited as well as the Global Alliance for Affordable Internet. And it is not just members of my cabinet. Others who served with me in different capacities are also soaring on the world stage.

A good example is Ms. Arunma Oteh, who I appointed the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Under her steady and skillful direction, Nigeria’s equity market grew in metric proportions, and by the time I left office in 2015, the market had tripled in size to $150 billion in value. Two months after I left office, Ms. Oteh was appointed a Vice-President and Treasurer at the World Bank.

With such personalities on my cabinet, no one can factually say we were ‘clueless’ or inept. The evidence of performance is simply overwhelming. We gave Nigeria an impressive and steady GDP growth rate at 6.7 per cent per annum.

We were officially cited as the third fastest growing economy in the world by CNN Money in 2014. We eradicated polio and guinea worm and became the first nation in the world to defeat the Ebola virus, such that the then richest man in the world, Bill Gates celebrated us for our prowess in the health sector. We reduced our food import bill by 36 per cent.”

That our leaders know what the right thing to do is.... They even know simple ways to get the nation back on its feet.......

but for some reason when they are in power they seem not have the same brain as when they are out of power.. Like a new software was installed...

In conclusion I think power has its way of affecting the mind of leaders running them temporarily MAD!
I do not agree with this, rather it is the greed inherent in our African leaders to loot the common treasury... If that theory is applicable to man, what of the Europeans?

Despite his atrocious performance in office, It is obvious that Buhari will try to use his cousin the INEC chairman to rig the elections.

As a blood thirsty dictator, he will also use the Nigerian military to shoot protesters of the rigging.

Nonetheless, Nigerians should not despair in voting in the right leader to rescue Nigeria and make Nigeria prosperous and safe again.
