The quality of education which an individual receives determines to a large extent what he/she can achieve in his/her lifetime. This is because at the end of the day you cannot give what you don’t have. So here are some of my thoughts on improving the quality every Nigerian citizen;

It has been scientifically proven that music is a powerful instrument that can be used to shape the mind and Music education can be used to develop an individual to be well-rounded especially during his/her early stages. A musicians mind is developed intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. A few examples to buttress this point:

Social development – Love and friendliness
Chiamaka was a young student who used to bully and beat up her classmates in class. But we can’t blame her because she was from a background where she always had to forcefully expressed herself and get physical to prove a point.
When music education was introduced in school the gradual process of transformation began. One day during the music class, the entire class had to learn a song titled “My friend.” At the end of the song instinctively without being told, the children including Chiamaka hugged their singing partner with laughter and joy radiating from their faces. This shocked everyone and it marked the beginning of a new Chiamaka.

Emotional development – Confidence
Jesse used to be very shy in class and at home. At first, during music classes he was always shy to stand in front of the class to play his recorder. After a short period of time, his class teacher noticed that during break time Jesse would meet a fellow classmate and play a tune he had learnt and perfected. One fellow student turned into two and before we knew it Jesse was comfortable standing in front of the class to perform. This new found confidence extended to other areas of his life. Amazing right?

Cognitive development – Analytical Skill and creativity
Tunde hated mathematics because he felt he was so bad at it despite all attempts to convince him otherwise. After trying the conventional methods to change his mind, we decided to try another approah. We got him a piano music instructor and in learning the piano, he got comfortable analyzing musical pieces: changes in tempo, counts per time. This fun exercise invariably improved his calculation skills without him knowing it. Now Tunde is one of the best mathematicians I know.
On another hand, creativity is one skill whose benefits that cannot be over-emphasized. This is one of those powerful advantages of developing a musical mind. A creative person usually allows his mind to wander around a particular idea and create possible ways to bring that idea into fruition.

Now, points to consider:
- A loving leader would always have the interest of his followers at heart before taking important decisions.
- A creative and confident individual will always create new ideas and inventions that contribute positively to the society.
