Thirty children have been confirmed dead, while more than 2,000 are currently receiving attention for acute malnutrition in various medical centres across Nasarawa State.

The Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency’s Nutrition Officer, Hajiya Halima Yusuf, confirmed this at a two-day meeting of the state Committee on Food and Nutrition on Sunday in Lafia.
She explained that the children had in the last three months been admitted to 15 health care centres in 13 Local Government Areas and 18 development areas of the state following the increase in the cases of acute malnutrition and other diseases due to inadequate nutrition.

“About 30 children have lost their lives to acute malnutrition and over 2,000 children are currently receiving medical attention in various medical centres across the state,” Yusuf said.

She further explained that as a result of the rising cases of malnutrition, the state Primary Health Care Development Agency had embarked on an intensive community management of acute malnutrition programme across the state in order to address the crisis.

Earlier, the Nasarawa State Coordinator, Committee on Food and Nutrition, Mr Abdul Osama, emphasized the need for more campaigns on the importance of nutritious food.

On his part, the State Chairman, Committee on Food and Nutrition, Mr Emmanuel Alidzi, appealed for urgent action to address the cases of malnutrition in the state.

The Nutrition Focal Persons in the local government areas also called for budgetary provisions for nutrition at the local government level.

Northern City News reports that the meeting of the Committee on Food and Nutrition drew focal persons from all the local government areas of the state.

cheesy Buhari thinks he is doing Southerners abi?

I thought with all these Billions pushed into northern Farming, by now they will be swimming in a pool of Food.

Until Northerners accept that they ought to learn from Southerners instead of hating, their life will continue being like this.

The Northern elites are just wicked. I will not fault Buhari's government for this but I'll blame these Northerners who will give birth to many children without proper care, they'll put them in Arabic schools without sending them foods and the Arabic teachers will send these children out to fend for food on their own.
Most of them are poor yet they keep marry small girls and keep producing children thy can never take proper care of.

Northerners are one of the biggest P we have in Nigeria if not the biggest.

War is young men dying and old men talking and playing politics.

Has any one else noticed that the speed and determination with which the political class combated Ebola in Nigeria has never been channelled to other problems facing this country because they know that even in the first class flights they board, Ebola can still reach them., in their five star hotels, it can still reach them.

Let's say we use that same energy, commitment, synergy and tackle our nation's problems one after the other, and see if Europeans won't be Coming here for holidays same way we Africans do.

True. Malnutrition isn't always caused by food shortage though.

grin grin ;DSome news could be very funny cheesy To some people who are not in Nasarawa now it would seem as if everybody in Nasarawa State is going about like hungry zombies looking for food in every dustbins Naaaaa, nothing like that, there is still lots of food in Nasarawa State but the reported malnutrition could be in the various IDPs scattered across the state and possibly in some of the villages that have been affected by the Fulani-Farmer's clashes
