I Want To Save Nigeria, Meeting With OBJ Not About GEJ, Zoning - IBB

ABUJA, August 01, (THEWILL) - Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has opened up on his presidential ambition declaring that he would not renege on his resolve to be President of Nigeria no matter the opposition before him even as he denied that former President Olusegun Obasanjo pressurized him to drop his presidential ambition.

Babangida said he was in the presidential race for real and has prepared for the presidential seat with 'every seriousness, right vision and untainted mission' to save Nigeria.

He said it was time to pay back what he had gained from Nigeria, a reason he resolved to enter the Presidential race, noting that at his age, he and others like him should be thinking of re-building Nigeria and setting it on a path of recovery for the youths of the country to take over.

IBB said the meeting between him and former President Obasanjo was not on Jonathan, neither was it on the zoning issue as reported by the media, stating that they both discussed issues of common interest, the two having for long shared mutual respect for one another.

The former military President also said that the meeting between him and Obasanjo was not the reason he did not attend the rally planned for him at Ibadan as earlier reported.

He said the planned rally was meant to accomplish the opening of a campaign office for him at Ibadan, noting that he would formally visit Oyo State and Ibadan at the appropriate time.

Babangida spoke through his media aide, Kassim Afegbua as he denied that Obasanjo did not attempt to woo him for President Jonathan.

The statement by Afegbua reads, "We have read series of media reports in the dailies saying that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was wooing former President General Ibrahim Babangida for President Jonathan.

"To state the obvious, there is nothing near the truth in the report because the meeting between Former Presidents Chief Obasanjo and General Babangida had nothing to do with 2011, zoning of the presidency or support for the rumored ambition of the President, Chief Goodluck Jonathan. The two former presidents have always exhibited mutual respect for each other irrespective of their different political leanings and ideologies.

"To the best of our knowledge, the incumbent President has not told Nigerians that he was interested in the 2011 Presidential race even though some of his political associates and friends have been on the streets drumming support for him. Till date, it is on record that only General Ibrahim Babangida, GCFR, has signified intention to run for the office of President under the platform of the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP.

"The meeting between the two former Presidents was not a political meeting as being reported. It was a social meeting which was not the first of its kind in recent times, as both of them enjoy mutual and positive relationship. It should be noted that General IBB as a former President has free access to the President, Chief Goodluck Jonathan and does not require a middle man to interface between him and the President.

@Ileke-Idi
IBB should henceforth be known as the "Jesus of Minna" - save Nigeria indeed. What was his purpose from 1985-1993? I assume "saving" Nigeria - if that was IBB's definition of saving Nigeria, we need to take to our heels at the sight of him.

If he is serious about paying back anything, let him show us what he has done for the average Nigerian since 1993. The first realization of a true leader is that the person at the top does very little to actually move a nation forward - he is a mere coordinator, an overseer, but one who can easily get in the way of progress and do more harm than good by trapping collective resources to his own advantage.

IBB never changes. He sent people ahead to proclaim his coming to Ibadan, now he changes the purpose of the event after the fact. No respect for the Olubadan and all those who waited to receive him. The same deceitful, lying, but unfortunately believable personality!

IBB just needs to stay away from any government position - that's the best thing he can do for Nigeria at this point.

My people, I am not laughing o. I'am weeping in my heart. You know as a man, when something so unbelievable happens, tears will fail you and instead you burst out into laughter, a laughter of agony. That's exactly what I'm expressing.

It is really saddening that a man like IBB will come out and say "I want to save Nigeria" and he is still allowed to move freely on our roads. It is really a pathetic situation in Nigeria that the troublers of Nigeria, spearheaded by IBB, have not been dealt with in a manner that will keep them mum forever. angry angry sad sad

In football, just as in all sports, people's reflexes tend to become slower as they advance in age but for this old fox and crooked personality, he gets better in deceit, dribbling, make-belief, dishonesty, dishonourable acts and unrighteousness and unfortunately, he still thinks Nigeria of today is still the same as that of 1985 - 1993 where the people are so gullible. He should know that its a new day and the veil covering the people's eyes have long been removed.

Let him save himself first - Then one can see how he is going to save Nigeria but at present he is heading for destruction and i doubt Nigeria wants to follow him - although we might be heading the same way at a slower pace.
Re: I Want To Save Nigeria - Ibb by Olaolufred(m): 11:48am On Aug 03, 2010
Babangida can not say this.

He does not have what it takes to save anything, not to to talk of a Nation.

Or Can he give what he doesn't have?

The only thing he has is destructive. But that Devil is hiding to decieve Nigerians.

God, kindly handle this Man Abachaically.

Biko.

Re: I Want To Save Nigeria - Ibb by nazzyon(m): 12:07pm On Aug 03, 2010
Somebody please tell this man he need not be a president to help Nigerians if he really mean what he is saying.

Many people contribute their own quota to the nation without holding any post in the office.

At present if the previous rulers pledges in campaign that they want to improve the current state of our economy then they are telling lies.

We've heard many empty promises it just amazes me that alot of Nigeria still believe in the ex-ruthless leader. If the likes IBB, Atiku, Alameisegha and others who ruled be it as a present, governor or chairmen steps out with promises I expect Nigerians to ignore them. If they can afford not to go to their campaign location, it will be most appreciable.

What have we as Nigeria experienced since your brother Jonathan took office? What is the state of the scandal in House of Reps with Bankole in focus?, Imagine Jonathan's honoraries? the likes of Dikko, the certificate forger and patricia ette? Guy please spare me this Jonathan bullshit. I used to have high hopes when Umar died, I was thinking we were gona make a head way in this country but it seems now that Umar is better that GEJ.

I am no advocate for Ibb and I don't like him one bit but honestly speaking, If I were to choose between Ibb and Jonathan over who has the balls to set Nigeria straight, I did go for Ibb.
