This had got me thinking all these while. A businessman approaches a Nigerian Customs brokering agent and tells him he wants to delivery of a consignment, by air or by sea. The Agent bills him appropriately for his services and proceeds to clear and deliver the goods, after due Customs process in the port only for the Agent to be arrested for having helped promote drug trafficking.

The point here is the Agent is not privy to the undisclosed items in the container. It does not even have to be drugs. It could be one or two pieces of contraband items, like say a pistol. And only God knows how many times Agents have been unwilling tools in the hand of unscrupulous importers in this matter.

My thinking is while it may be appropriate to hold the Agent until the relevant Government agencies are able to apprehend the importer; it amounts to double jeopardy joining the Agent in the case.
