NASS Crisis: Power, Water Supplies Restored, Businesses Remain Closed by NairaMedia: 10:24am On Dec 18, 2018
Power and water supplies to the National Assembly Complex have been restored. The building was already lit as of 9am when our correspondent entered the premises.

It was however observed that businesses, including banks, restaurants and vendors, in the complex, remained shut.

They were forced to close shops on Monday when the protesting workers shut down facilities in the building.

Chambers open, lawmakers in, workers out

Our correspondent observed that while workers were shut out of the premises, lawmakers and their aides are allowed into the building.

For instance, Senator Barnabas Gemade entered the building at 9:32am.

It was also observed that the Senate and House of Representatives chambers have been opened for plenary but the sergeants-at-arms who usually man the entrances and operate in the chambers were not on duty.

Policemen and DSS operatives could be seen at strategic locations in and around the building.

Meanwhile, Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr Mohammed Sani-Omolori, who is at the centre of the crisis, walked in at 9:42am. He declined to speak when approached by journalists.

The way people hype Legislative Aides, I thought it is one of the mouth watery jobs in Nigeria. But the way they protest over salaries and allowances these days makes me think otherwise.
