Awka, the capital city of Anambra State was indeed thrown into liveliness and convivial jubilation as Queen Cynthia Azubuogu Foundation, a non-profit and humanitarian organization, embraced with the Anambra State Central E-Library Awka in a struggle to end child poverty in the country.
This came to the shore in a one-day event tagged: "Feed A Child Today" jointly hosted by the duo, in the cause to end child poverty.
Speaking at the event which took place in the premise of the Prof. Kenneth Dike Central E-Library Awka, the Anambra State's commissioner for Women's and Children's Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, represented by Lady Precious Anagor lauded the organizers of the event which she described as apt and worth sustaining, owing to its leviathan benefits to the children and the society at large.
She further enjoined everybody especially the well-to-do individuals to remember the less privileged in this yuletide period, even as she beckoned on Ndi Anambra to come home to celebrate the Christmas in the state as there's no form of fear or anything to worry about.
Earlier in her opening remark, the Acting Director of the Prof. Kenneth Dike Central E-Library, Dr. Nkechi Udeze described library as a place where people, (children, youths and adults) can be bookishly molded, sharpened and prepared to be great, excel and be a better person in the society; and therefore called on the parents and guardians to avail themselves and their children the opportunity to take full advantage of the library and the learning facilities therein.
On the flank of the event, which she eulogized and described as rare in the society today, Dr. Udeze charged everybody to embrace the gesture of philanthropy and helping the the less privileged at all times, even as she confessed the openness and willingness of the library to partner with groups, foundations or organizations that have similar or other wonderful initiatives aimed at shaping the future of the young ones and making the society a better place to live.
In her own speech, the founder and CEO of Queen Cynthia Azubuogu Foundation, Barr. Cynthia Azubuogu said the aim of the event (which was its second edition) was to champion the "Feed A Child Today" campaign which is one of the initiatives and humanitarian objectives of her nonprofit organization towards ending child poverty in the country.
Queen Cynthia who is also lawyer by profession said her foundation has been in the forefront in promoting the wellbeing of women and children and the society at large, which it does through different activities and humanitarian initiatives. She called on others to queue into such a great initiatives and benevolent gestures, which she said can help to improve the living standard of the citizenry in the country, given the country's present economic tangle and quagmire.
The event which featured cutting of Christmas cake, different presentations and dancing competitions, was attended by over five thousand participants, most of whom were drawn from different schools and orphanage homes across the state who were presented with various gift items.
Among others, the climax of the event was awarding of scholarship to a student of Community Secondary Schools Okpuno, Master Arinze Onyebuchi, by Queen Cynthia Azubuogu, who said the fondation through the scholarship scheme would henceforth take care of the beneficiary's education funding till he graduates from secondary school.
