After a succesful outing in Germany and winning the silver medal, the facolnets (U_20 female team) of Nigeria finally returned home amidst joy from supporters. The first lady, Dame jonathan hosted them to a party and afterwards they were rewarded each with scholarship to a Nigerian university. Do you think the falconets were rewarded well by the government?
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by honeric01(m): 7:09pm On Aug 05, 2010
They didn't win any silver medal or did you see them lift any trophy? they only came second just like their counterparts (the u-17 male in Nigeria). so what kind of "HANDSOME" reward are you looking for?
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by Okijajuju1(m): 7:10pm On Aug 05, 2010
For ladies who played for change, I think they deserved some kind of reward.
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by honeric01(m): 7:33pm On Aug 05, 2010
Played for change as in? did they actually win anything?

FYI: they got 20 million naira from a Business mogue today and they have also gotten scholarships from the President's wife, are these not enough? maybe we should build them duplexes too abi?
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by Okijajuju1(m): 7:37pm On Aug 05, 2010
Scholarships!!

That was hilarious!! Let me guess, to study football at harvard!! Or Engineering in Unilag!! really funny post.
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by Okijajuju1(m): 7:39pm On Aug 05, 2010
BTW

20 million Naira divided by 23, minus NFA cut, minus Coaching crews cut, minus Agents cut ='s??

Those girls would be lucky if they each get 100,000 Naira out of that money.
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by honeric01(m): 7:42pm On Aug 05, 2010
Apart from playing football, you need education as an option in case you end up with injury, the scholarship is to study at any federal university in Nigeria.

So? should they be given one bank's vault each or what?

What did the government give the U-17 male that came second in FIFA U-17 worldcup that took place in Nigeria?
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by Okijajuju1(m): 7:42pm On Aug 05, 2010
Check their individual match bonuses and compare.
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by medjai(m): 8:32pm On Aug 05, 2010
serving the nation is not all about material reward. They should be proud they have served Nigeria. "think not what your country can do for you. . ." you know the rest

FucQ that!! angry

Then give everyone presidential handshales instead of giving the SE 1.6 billion to party in South Africa with match bonuses of 30,000 US dollars per match and paying the girl 200 dollars or so per match.

Like the saying goes, @Whats good for the goose" You know the rest.

This girls deserve a very handsome reward. What papa eagles could not do, they did. If 1% of the billions wasted on papa eagles are given to this girls, it wont be too much. They trully made us happy after the South Africa debacle.
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by mamagee3(f): 9:22pm On Aug 05, 2010
Of course, they were rewarded. . .

I'm sure the government paid the a huge amount of money for their performance.
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by honeric01(m): 9:48pm On Aug 05, 2010
Lol, Nigerians with their misplaced piorities, when the U-17 of 2007 won the worldcup, what did they get? shares and scholarship, now the girls came 2nd (a feat most of their male counterparts achieve almost all the time except the SE), they're being given scholarship, yet some Nigerians still want govt to give them one bank vault each.

Rubbish

BTW: How much did FIFA even give the winner of the cup? undecided
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by medjai(m): 10:35pm On Aug 05, 2010
I saw on the news on one of the local channels:
"we want money not scholarship"-Falconets
It was funny and apalling.

Emanating from the papa eagles debacle, this girls really brought back smiles to'our faces. Considering the fact that they were negleted and all resources and attention was given to eagles, they still didnt faulter. Just imagine if this girls were given attention, the sky would ve been their limit. How much was given to Spain for winning the world cup and much did we spent on eagles preparation? Note, world cup participation is not an investment where u spend N100 and expect to get N200, otherwise we wont have spent billions on eagles.
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by Okijajuju1(m): 11:02pm On Aug 05, 2010
Scholarships!! angry angry angry

For girls who I'm sure as as think as gum!!

If they were so intelligent most of them wouldnt be in football.

Give them MONEY. Nobody said a vault but 20million Naira isnt enough. If the Papas got 1.6billion those girls should get atleast 200 million.

My opinion

Which smiles? how many people actually watched their matches? infact, how many of una knew they were even out to play in the first place? which smiles are you talking about?

how much FIFA gave una for 2nd place? or did your "U-20" girls bring home any cup?

For winning what? do you know how much Nigeria got from FIFA just to participate in the world-cup? that money we got from FIFA is even bigger than what the winner of the U-20 worldcup got from FIFA, so sorry bro, stop comparing both of them, they are not mate, you can't even compare them with the female national team, get your priorities right.

they got at least close to $5000 each from the tournament, and they were also given 20million just yesterday, plus scholarships, and the president himself is yet to host them, so why not take a chill pill?

THE U-17 BOYS THAT FINISHED 2ND IN THE U-17 WORLD-CUP WERE NOT GIVEN ANYTHING, THEY HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN HOSTED BY THE GOVERNMENT, so why all these cries from Una?
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by Desdo(m): 8:39am On Aug 06, 2010
The falconets are taking things too far by demanding for money, come to think of it a presidential honour is not a right but a privilege. But in the other way round most of this girls are not academically inclined, genuineness of age and they might be afraid if successive govt would want to continue with the scholarship.
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by medjai(m): 11:29am On Aug 07, 2010
I wonder why girls under the age of 19 will no longer be interested in education? Are 17/18 year olds so interested in money rather than sound education? Why would 17 year old girls want to buy cars or houses? They are not even up to driver's licence age.
These girls had better come out and tell us their real ages
Re: Were The Falconets Rewarded Handsomely? by Okijajuju1(m): 11:33am On Aug 07, 2010
All the ones that you have given an education with no jobs Nko?!

What did you think drove them into football in the first place??

In Nigeria, we havent been known to have educated athletes, I'm not saying its good, but if they have chosen sport as their trade, I say they should get paid for it. It not as if you need a BSc in Physical Education to jion a football team, do you??

There age is insignificant, pay them, they earned it.

CORRECTION sir!
scholarship from the Govt of Nigeria

@topic

if they are really U-20 then the scholarship plus match bonuses plus exposure at the world cup is a just reward.some of them will be signed by professional clubs in europe

scholarship from the Govt of Nigeria

These scholarships came from the ministry of Women affairs indirectly chaired by the 1st lady, so I'm not wrong, even in her speech, she clearly stated that it was her intention that these girls got the scholarship, so i don't think it was the govt.

The government is yet to host them just like they are yet to host the U-17 MEN

meaning that she will fund the scholarship from her own personal funds
or is the money of the ministry her own funds?

Maybe you should ask her yourself if you have the access, but from all indications, she's going to be doing that through the ministry of women affairs.

and what happens when /or if her husband and her leave office next year?

The scholarships were award through the ministry of women affairs, so it remains intact except if they scrap the ministry of women affairs.

so you now accept my original statement that these were Govt scholarships and not a personal gift of the 1st lady?

Government? directed by who? didn't you hear me, the gesture was raised by the 1st lady, that's why she was the one that presented the gifts.

The federal government is yet to host them.
