Today there was another shooting rampage in an american school. THis time it was in Virginia tech and 32 people were killed. the gunman also commited suicide.
As at the time i left home this morning it was 1 person dead. i came back not long ago to discover the death toll at 32. it was a shocker to see the death toll and my heart really grieves for the families of those who lost their lives. its really heart-breaking.
this massacre is now the deadliest in american school history. many people are still in critical-condition and the death toll could rise.

what do we think is causing all these shootings and eruptions of violence?
Could it be attributed to violent video games and movies or what?
what can be done to curb them? after the columbine shootings there was a lot of outcry against it, yet it has refused to stop.
at this rate, is any school safe?
You guys thoughts are welcome.

These are the worst types. These people are not gangstas, and drug dealers. They are engineering students and facullty. People who would not have suspected anything of the sort to happen to them. I could easily have been one of the victims.
Just so fucking sad.

Freak accidents like this happen in other countries (Canada and Germany most recently), but USA really seems to have a disproportionate amount of crazies.

My condolences to the families of the victims

the worst part is that, there's not much people can do to stop this kind of violence because its done by sadistic people with probably no criminal records or are they gonna start having security personels and metal detectors in schools like at the airports?

I felt so sad when i heard the news at school this afternoon. But i tot the school faculty could have done sometin  to it when the first person was shot in the morning. They could have allowed students to evacuate the campus, that way there would have been less crime. There are crazy people  here in America 4 real.

yep, the guy was an asian, probably international, student.

i really wonder why the school didnt act on time after the first incidence either to close down the school or to send word out to people. effectively that decision or indecision was the difference between 2 people and 33 people dead.

I just found out today receiving from my church bereaved announcement (electronically) that i could not believe hearing this.

One of among 32 dead is named Erin Peterson, a student of Virginia Tech. She was my active church member here in Virginia. Virginia Tech is more than 200 miles southwestern Virginia from my currently residence and church---more than 4 hours driving.

Please continue praying for my church member, Erin's family the Hogan and Peterson in the spiritual deliverance of healing processing in the name of Jesus Christ.

Amen,

They could have acted to it but from the reports i heard, the school faculty didn't know it was a big incident, they tot i was just a minor incident due to their informant but before they could realized how major it was, it was too late most students were getting to school by then and their was no way they could shut the school down. And i think it's even illegal to shut schools down anyway.

It is very easy to ask questions as armchair journalists. How do you expect the school to evacuate over 26000 students within 2 hrs and to where?
No one knew who the shooter was and what was really happening so how did you expect the school to respond?

What made this more tragic is the fact that the culprit was an average albeit weird student with no previous criminal record. In the event the school decided to evacuate after the initial incident, what would have stopped the fellow from mingling with the others unnoticed and shot them wherever they went?

@davidylan

You got beat me to answer this one for @sy2000 and @ricadelide. You have said it all!!!

First shooting incident started at 7:15am in the morning. Everyone (students at Virginia Tech) are sleeping or getting up hitting shower in preparation for 8am or 9am morning classes.

It does not have time for students checking their email to receive warning message.

Second shooting incident started at 9:40am.

Only one person is really to blame in this incident. The perpetrator of this heinous crime.
What makes it even more sad is that he's getting exactly what he wants - international attention. What a pity.

now we know what the guy was doing between the two shootings; he was preparing his 'manifesto' or press release. its so hard to imagine what kind of evil and anger this guy was harboring
Re: 32 People Shot In Virginia Tech - Why So Much Violence In Schools? by ricadelide(m): 1:25am On Apr 19, 2007
i think the turning point or the critical point in this guy's story was his being able to get a gun in his state of mind. he had been profiled and reported to police and yet, he was able to pass all the necessary background checks to get a gun.
one has to wonder what background checking they did. and again, why doesnt a court prononcement like the one that said the guy is a threat to himself and others (paraphrased) be a rate limiting step against the guy having acess to guns.

however, its easy to look back with hindsight and see all the flaws. i hope however that positive things could be learnt from this experience to prevent future occurences.
