Within a few days and anxious hours, the year 2018 with its glamour and excitement would role into its inevitable end to give to the new year a year of hope. The year 2018 could be associate with a period of political instability and various security challenges. It is a year when the insurgents (FULANI HERDSMEN ) dominated the news waves with senseless killings of Nigerians and abduction of school girls from Dapchi. Though Borno state had been recaptured by Nigeria's gallant security outfits, the abducted girls are yet to be rescued. The news of freedom of the abducted and the defeat of terrorism would be welcome in New Year. At the tail in the price of black gold, the mainstay of the Nigerian shaky economy. The price of a barrel of crude oil has tumbled. Since the Federal Government, 36 states and 774 Local Governments depend heavily on revenues from the sale of crude oil,any downward changes in the price of that crucial commodity would undoubtedly,present economic problems. It could be recalled with sadness that earlier warnings by patriotic Nigerians against reliance absolutely on revenue from crude oil had not found favour in official quarters. The desirable diversification of the Nigerian economic jargon or political propangada for elections. The deplorable condition of our roads and consequencies of fatal accidents could not be forgotten in a hurry. Also, the non-completion of some inter states important roads of which Ibadan (Oyo) to Ilorin (Kwara) express road comes to mind. The portion betwen Oyo and Ogbomoso has remained uncompleted since the regime of president Obasanjo, inspite of several appeals. We welcome the year 2019 with the hope that the elections would be cöducted by INEC in a democratic fashion-fair and just under a peaceful atmosphere. The expectation is that the new rulers would work together to ensure security, stability and prosperity for the country. Wishing all happy new year in advance.
