“Well she did more than interfere, she practically shut the whole thing down. “ the doctor moved involuntary to one of the empty chair before the table the Director was sitting behind but stopped himself. “I have had to sedate him, to keeping him under for long to put a halt on the damage that had occurred. “
It took a strong effort of will for the Director not to sound skeptical but appeared concerned. “Please tell me doctor what happened. “


“ Like you know the major challenge we had with successful implant of the enhanced cells for the rapid tissue regeneration, was for the brain to accept them. “ this time, the doctor’s shoulders sagged as if a heavy burden was just placed on him. Then he finally surrendered and collapsed on an empty chair. “At first the brain forced the body to reject the bio implants, making the body to regard them as diseases. As the antibodies fought off the implants, the implants fought back causing the regenerating tissues to turn cancerous and kill the subjects.


“We lost several subjects on the early trials, like you know. It took me a while to figure out what the problem was and I proposed a temporal solution. Which we tried on a subject and was relatively successful. I proposed we wipe the memories and personalities of the subjects, administering slow reconditioning of the brain and eventually induce it to accept the implants as being part of the body. The results showed the new method worked physically but the subjects ended up being just empty mentally, devoid of memories, personalities and their own wills. Just like an empty computer waiting to be loaded with programs and commands. That is where Gina came in. She is a psychologist and psychiatrist, so this was her area if expertise. “


“Yes, yes doctor, I’m aware of all that. And that worked brilliantly. We had multiple real life on the field successes. “ the Director put in just to prod the doctor along his narration.
“Like you stated at one time, what you needed were soldiers-super strong, adaptable and reliable soldiers. Which was less than what you were getting from the crop of the successful first set. Which led me to the next trial stage. This is what produced subject 5.”

The Director had to swallow a grouse threatening to show up. He had to be patient and let the doctor vent his pent up frustrations. Not that he cared for him anyway. Just that for now, the doctor is still very valuable to the success of this particular venture. From his personal forecast of the future, if he must get he goals achieved, then Dr. Francis will have to complete this project. After that, well he can be quietly disposed of.


“Subject 5 was the perfect specimen to start that with. He was ex military, has a good family and all. “ Dr. Francis’ voice dropped a bit as if this part was difficult to get over. “He had some level of commitment to an ideal, if not outright patriotism, then a deep sense of love for his family. My attempts were to go slow with him in introducing the implants at a more slower rate than all previous subjects andl as well do something different for the next two subjects after him. In his case, I wouldn’t authorize a full memory or personality wipe but slight mental modifications and hypnosis suggestions to the brain to make it accept the new bio-reconditioning. Well Gina was brought in. She suggested that the hypnosis should be deep and for it to work, a traumatic episode should be introduced to his mind. Her reasons been that his mental state is too steady to succumb to simple hypnotic suggestions, dark episodes have to be introduced to his memories to break down his defenses. Which I partially objected to, insisting I need his mind fully functional for my new method to work. Well I achieved some level of success which you were aware of and actually commended. “


“I know all these doctor. But what is the point of the whole narrative? “ he was getting impatient in spite of himself. There are too many things needing the Director's personal attention for the doctor to be taking too much of his time. “Just tell me what has gone wrong. “
“Gina just screwed up all of that progress. She wiped the subject’s memories, implanted tragic after tragic ones in their places which the mind kind of resisted. She had to get a biochip memory implant to help break down his mental defenses. While that succeeded, the enhanced bio implants has started to fail. His accelerated tissue repair are turning cancerous and killing the subject now. “

Sorry I have been away for so long. I didn't forget the thread, just not able to type and update for some months now. Though I have some typed parts that I haven't uploaded yet.
I'm not promising anything yet o, but I may start posting something later.
