But why? What is the evolutionary advantage of consciousness? How can questioning the meaning of existence be advantageous from an evolutionary perspective?

Because the universe doesn't understand if anything is dead or alive.

The universe has always obeyed the law of conservation of energy even before we became cautious of life and before the word "life" was coined and there nothing we can do to change that.

The purpose of your existence and any other thing is simply to store energy and recyle them. At the quantum level, every atom is the same, that's what the universe understands.

Still doesn't answer the question of the purpose? If we evolved to contemplate these things surely there must be some method to this madness called the universe?
