I dont know a school in Abuja. Its not a bad idea to attend a school to get that knowledge but you can use video tutorials. I did and so can you! If you are interested you can send me a mail radysolutions@yahoo.com.

Interesting. I just might do that.

Another question is how much am I likely to earn for each website I build?

If you were to be in Lagos, I'd say go to Computer Village and buy yourself video tuts on Dreamweaver, Fireworks (or Photoshop) and Flash for starters. When you've mastered your XHTML/CSS, then you can take a closer look at theme design for either Wordpress or Joomla or even both. That will expose to developing dynamic websites. Notice that I said theme design. That means creating themes from scratch, not installing free themes you get online or even premium templates. Installing themes other people created is not website design. As a designer, you must be able to create from scratch. You'll learn PHP/MYSQL along the way as you'll be using it a lot in either of the CMSes I mentioned.

As for online tuts, just use Google and you'd see loads of quality information but if you want to learn fast, stick to videos online or offline.

How much can you earn? It depends on the scope of the site, your perception of your client and most importantly on the quality of your skills. If you're sure of your skill set, you can earn at least 100k in any given month. That can come from a project or two. Beware of underpricing yourself as the work involved can at times be tedious otherwise you may lose your motivation and turn in a shoddy job.

I have been recommended to go NIIT. The problem is I have 2 or 3 courses to choose from.

The first is Dreamweaver and Flash which is close to what Enquirer recommended. I currently leaning towards this as it seems close to what I imagine myself doing as a web designer. I am not sure if I can do the two of them together as they came with two different pamphlets (however the two pamphlets were stapled tother).

The second is "Sun Java Web Component Developer". I am not sure what this is but from the course objectives it seems more technical and I would like to get a well rounded education so I could earn enough money. I am not sure if I can do this together with two above. So I may have to choose between them.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S I am still also going to take advantages of video tutorial and stuff online I can find but this seems like a good opportunity and foundation for me.

The first has to do with Web design, but the second is Programming. I think for web application, you may get to learn Javaservlet pages and Java applet development, which in my opinion is better than the first!

Since you can get trained in the first online, and through materials, but the second may be difficult to comprehend without formal training!

Moreover the second is a bigger and better offer, to pay for!

I figured as much. Still programming is tough for me to push through. That said I'm alot more serious than I used to be.

Can you give me an example of the earning potential of the first vs the second.

Hmm, Honestly, IT is all about how well you can do it. It might be wrong saying programming is much more financially beneficial than Programming!

Cause some website developers are financially boyant than programmers and vice versa!

But i can definitely tell you that, at some point you might require knowledge of Programming for your websites,

Also this days, programmers are more sort after and better paid than web site designers! Cause GUI(Graphical User Interface ) is more or less easy to get around with softwares like Dreamweaver and CO.

So it's better you go for the second!

I will also lastly say that Programming is not as hard as it seems but definitely more difficult than web design!

Thank you for that. I will definately give it some thought. I am now leaning towards the programming.

That said, I will definately try to do both if it is all possible. If not I will go with programming and do the other stuff some other way.
