FRENCH TOURIST VISA : Help Needed by tomidayspring: 7:40pm On Aug 12, 2010
I have always dreamt of visiting Paris and i intend traveling to Europe in September 2010,I have 2 years UK multiple visa,so London is my final destination but i want to spend just 3 days in Paris but i have the following questions:

1. Do i apply for a tourist visa or a transit visa at the French VFS

2. What is the processing time for french visas is it as fast as the UK embassy? like how many days will it take?

3. Is personal interview mandatory at the french embassy after submitting documents at the VFS?

4. Which airline would be preferable and effective for this short visit Airfrance or British airways? Or alternatively do i go to UK first then travel to france for 3 days before returning back to Uk for my final departure.

5. Contacts of English speaking or Nigerian tour guides are welcome.

thank you

A Nigerian holding a UK visa does not need a transit visa to connect through airports in France. But if you wish to be allowed into the country, then, you need a tourist visa.

tomidayspring:

2. What is the processing time for french visas is it as fast as the UK embassy? like how many days will it take?
If your documents are not questionable, if your intention is clear and your application is transparent, then, your visa could be issued within ten days depending on how busy they are.

tomidayspring:

3. Is personal interview mandatory at the french embassy after submitting documents at the VFS?
An interview is not necessary if your application is crystal clear and the embassy has no reason to question you.

tomidayspring:

4. Which airline would be preferable and effective for this short visit Airfrance or British airways? Or alternatively do i go to UK first then travel to france for 3 days before returning back to Uk for my final departure
The airline that you fly with is not necessarily taken into account, but the airport you'd be flying from may count for security and verification reasons. And it doesn't matter what country you arrive in first (whether the UK or France) as long as you hold the UK and the Schengen visa, but if you wish to exercise your Schengen visa first, you have to start with France except you have compelling reasons to enter through another Scengen country.

tomidayspring:

5. Contacts of English speaking or Nigerian tour guides are welcome.
Well, be careful with Nigerians when it comes to travel matters because, most are vampires, when you have some money to be sucked out of you: They are predators, when you allow them to exhaust the life of your purse and scavengers when they feed on your remnant.
Honestly, you don't really need a tour guide, Tour-guides are usually for a group of tourists who pay for the services of a tourism company that provides them with private vehicles (ie buses) with tourist drivers and guides.
So, what you can do is to go to a tourist information dest in Paris, they are usually at the Airports, also at major train and bus stations, there you would be provided with free take-away maps of the city showing tourist attractions and directions. You would be told how to get to the city Site-Seeing bus-stops where you can join an open-roof-double-decker (hop-in/hop-out) tour bus that will take you about the whole city: the buses have inbuilt recorded information that explains every attraction in view, and every passenger will be given an earphone and allowed the options of different languages. The cost is remarkably cheap, the services are superb and the staff are polite.
Man, just do as i narrated, and you'd have a blissful trip to talk about in Nairaland

Are you two in one, Tomidayspring & Meine? cheesy grin cheesy
Well, i stressed that every passenger will be given an earphone and allowed the options of different languages in the tour bus, and besides, you'd be going as a tourist, therefore language will not be a problem since people who are employed in tourism sections are usually multi lingual employees.

This is how i know it works at the french embassy documents needed for a french tourist visa includes

Bank statement
Emplyment letter
Itroduction letter
Pay stubs
hotel reservation
travel insurance
photocopy of ur work id card
valid travel ticket
and any other documents to proove you got ties in Nigeria and also that you are comfortable back home in Nigeria

Step 2
Go to the VFS office in lekki yourself and submit your documents and then you would be given a ticket or card and told to report to the embassy at FALOMO for your thumb printing and maybe and interview and then you would be told to come back for your passport in 5 working days , Note that you must be available for your thumb printing, thats all i fink you need to know as regards french embassy, but as regards the ticket what you can do is this you go to air france office on adeola odeku and tell them you wanna apply for a french visa you would be told to deposit #50.000, and a ticket would be given to you if your visa is denied you come back with your passport to proof that you where denied and your money would be refunded but if you are not denied you complete the ticket money and fly with them,

All tha best,

@ Dantecmu, is it a requirement from the French Embassy that an applicant must purchase a traveling return ticket and submit it along with his/her application at the vfs application center. IS it compulsory?

Sorry, i should ask Vcjustice grin, is it a requirement from the French Embassy in Nigeria that an applicant must purchase a traveling return ticket and submit it along with his/her application at the vfs application center. Is it compulsory now? Or it was compulsory before in 2010, and we are in 2012 now. ?

It is not a requirement.
Some time ago, it was possible to book a flight itinerary without paying for it, and then use it in visa application. But now-a-days, no Airline Company allows that and, they do not even allow a booking to exceed 24 hours without paying for it: and most economy class tickets are non-refundable. Visa Officers know this and therefore, it is not logical for them to require a flight ticket of you when they are not sure that your visa will be approved: It would be a tragedy to pay a non-refundable (lets say) N200.000 for a flight ticket and then to be refused the visa to travel

Hello,

its not a requirement to have the ticket paid for but you need to include the confirmed flight reservation, i just did thesame schengen visa for Netherland and i submitted my confirmed flight booking, although it was stated that it expires after 48hrs if not paid for. I tried Air france, it was'nt successfull but i was able to book on Luftansa which was what i submitted with it.

see detailed list of docs you need to submitt with your application.

Two copies of passport data pages and those mentioning an extension of validity

Copies of valid US, UK, Canada, Japan and any Schengen visa

Applicant’s proof of employment: Letter from the employer, with address and telephone number, stating the position held as well as the starting date and the monthly salary. This certificate has to confirm the dates of approved leave from place of work, the return back to work and whether salary is paid or not during the period.

For merchants or in case of self-employment: copy of the certificate of trade registration or other appropriate document (Authorisation of practice).

Proofs of the applicant’s personal income : Copy of all kind of bank accounts (Updated at least 15 days prior to the application, including the page with the meaning of codes of operations) and, if applicable, copies of the three last salary slips

If the applicant has no personal income or if they are insufficient : the spouse or a family member has to prove his (her) personal incomes (copy of the three last salary slips or copy of updated bank accounts) and write a letter confirming that he (she) will pay for all the applicant‘s expenses during the stay

Confirmed reservation of return flight ticket(s). If applicable, detailed itinerary clearly showing the name of all visited countries and the dates of stay

Proofs of accommodation for the complete duration of stay in the Schengen countries : Booking of an hotel room with dates of checking in and out, OR title deed OR lease of house or apartment

Invitation letter from the French company, stating purposes and dates of the business trip. For participation in fairs in France, evidence of booking or payment for the stall must be submitted.

Copy of medical insurance valid for the length of stay and for all Schengen countries, covering medical repatriation and hospital care. A minimum corresponding to 30,000 Euros is mandatory. Hello, its not advisable to get to the country's border of entery e.g airport before you start asking at the tourist information desk ooo, prepare your itenary (there are lots of resource on the internet). You dont have to get to Paris before you know where you're going. You would have been drilled by the immigration officer at clearance before you get to the tourist information desk so research places you can visit in Paris before you travel. After your border clearance you can then get to the tourist information desk for enquiries. I had this experience at Gatwick and it was'nt funny, since then i learned to know more about any place i choose to visit.
