BREAKING!!! AGF Drags Chima Anyaso to Court Over Alleged N2b Fraud

The House of Representatives Candidate of People's Democratic Party, PDP, for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chima Anyaso has been dragged to court by the Office of the Attorney General of Federation over an alleged 2billion naira fraud, Igbere TV can authoritatively report.

Igbere TV reports that the oil magnet was charged before the Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining a N2bn credit facility from Guaranty Trust Bank using forged documents.

Anyaso, alongside his firm, Ceecon Energy Oil and Gas Limited, was charged before Justice Ayotunde Faji.

Igbere TV learnt that the defendants were charged to court based on a petition to the office of the AGF by GTB.

In the charges, Anyaso and his firm were accused of forging and altering a document titled, “Letter of offer for sale,” dated February 21, 2011 and printed on the letterhead of Total Nigeria Plc.

The defendants, according to the prosecution, allegedly made a false claim to GTB that they had an offer for the sale of 15,000 metric tonnes of Aviation Turbine kerosene.

The prosecution alleged that with the forged documents, the defendants obtained a credit facility of N2,066,400,000 from GTB.

The prosecuting counsel for the AGF’s office, Mr Julius Ajakaiye, said Anyaso and his firm acted contrary to Section 1(2)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

At the mention of the case before Justice Faji on Tuesday, Ajakaiye said the prosecution was still having difficulty serving the charge sheet on the defendants, who, he alleged, were evading service.

He, therefore, prayed for an order to serve the charge sheet on them by substituted means.

Justice Faji granted the prayer and directed that the charge sheet should be pasted on the wall of the defendants’ last known address – 16 Babatunde Dabiri Street, Lekki Phase 1 and Olaza 307/Suit 301, Third Wing, Worth Plaza, Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The judge adjourned till January 30, 2019 for report of service.

Meanwhile, Anyaso has described the court case as another 'Witch-hunt' from opposition parties who are afraid that they might loose the elections.

Anyaso made this known in a statement sent to Igbere TV by the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organization on Wednesday.

He revealed that he is not worried by the antics of the main opposition in Abia as it is the trademark of the political party who would use any foul means to destroy the image of credible opponents ahead of a major election, especially when it is clear to them that they are going to be defeated in the election.

The statement reads in parts "that this case is coming up now should give serious concern to every right-thinking person. Just a few days to an election which our candidate, Chima Anyaso will definitely win regardless of what is thrown at him. We want the world to know that this is an allegation and a witch hunt that has no bases but merely being used to cast aspersion and smear on the well-accepted profile and candidature of Chima Anyaso as the next house of a representative member from Bende Federal Constituency. It is all politics, and bad politics from the Jiltery opposition as usual”.

“It should be put on record that the company in question, Ceecon Energy Oil and Gas limited is 70% owned by the Slok Group which is a company promoted by former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu who is the main sponsor and godfather of the opposition candidate of the APC Benjamin Kalu who is also seeking to represent Bende just as our candidate, Dr Chimaobi Anyaso.

“That this matter is coming up now is clearly the handiwork of the opposition and detractors in Abia state. Recall that the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organization had last week raised alarm over an unraveled plot to attack the reputation of Dr. Anyaso by the opposition in connivance with state and non-State machineries. The blackmail and witch-hunt seem to have commenced but Dr. Anyaso is not bothered”
