'O To Gé, O To Gé, O To Gé!!!
Many, especially, people who understand Yoruba language very well would have been wondering what I meant by the words,or better still slogan,I scribed above while others who don't would have been wondering the kind of language I deployed in writing those words but deep down they will also be curious about what I meant by that. My sole mission now boils down to the fact that I need to explain the reason why I write those words and in addition also explain the the meaning to those that don't understand yet. Great task it is,right? Lol
'O To Gé' is actually a Yoruba words which literally means 'Enough is Enough'. I can remember vividly when I was young and a kid back then running and playing around in his dirty pant, which was a result of a long playing day in the sun either playing football or running aimlessly around searching for what was never lost. After the normally playing time which was around 2pm-6pm as it was stipulated by our parents back then,my colleagues and I would still went on to play in the dark which would prompt our parents to be shouting our names after the other like 'Akanni Ere'pa to n se lati aaro yen tito géoh,ile tisú oh. (Akanni that playing of yours is enough for the day,it's dark already). After this warning, which virtually all of us didn't used to take serious then would be another one which was usually 'O To Gé mohun sofun iwo omo yii oh,o to gé oh (Enough is enough,I'm insisting enough is enough). He who failed to heed to this second warning would be unfailingly be subjected to ear-pulling or worst still a thorough beating from the playing ground.
Back to the subject of discourse, 'O To Gé'(Enough is Enough) is the campaign slogan of the All Progressive Congress (APC),Kwara State Chapter. From its campaign billboards, posters and fliers, you can see the tagline written boldly on the top, with a staunch upper case characters depicting their seriousness and belief in the efficacy of the words.
To everyone who resides in Kwara state or is familiar with the state of politics therein, the word 'O TO Gé' has a political cum personal motivated meaning which is meant to sway the mind of the good people of the state in the forthcoming elections. It is an intended aim to dig at the personality of the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki. Yes,that's what's meant there's no point beating around the bush. Ever since the unveiling of Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman as its gubernatorial flagbearer and other aspirants for other elective posts,APC (Kwara State Chapter) has yet to show their commitment or gives a valid manifestoes as to why their various aspirants should be elected and better still what they have in stock to offer Kwarans, rather they are more interested in undermining the personality of the Senate president.
The APC in Kwara had made it very clear that this election is between Dr. Bukola Saraki and their various candidates contesting various political offices. So absurd, isn't it?
From their gubernatorial candidate, to the senate and House of Representatives candidadates, down to the each and every House of Assembly candidates, all of them seem to have a common opposition candidate in the person of Dr. Bukola Saraki. If you approach any candidate contesting under the APC for any political office in Kwara state and ask about his/her plans if he/she is elected and you’ll be so surprised that they have nothing to offer, all what they are interested in is to dismantle the Saraki's political family at the expense of the goodwill of the people, imagine that.
Early this year, there was a radio session where the APC senatorial aspirant DR Yahaya Oloriegbe was hosted by Sobi FM,a radio station in Kwara state that is widely known for serving as the APC's mouthpiece. During the questions and answers session, the presenter asked Mr Oloriegbe the reason why he is gunning for the post. Among his reasons was that to have an effective democracy system, the executive and legislative arms of the government must be from the same political party. I was dumbfounded and feel at lost at once. What kind of assertion is that to start with! This and many others are the foolery the APC,Kwara state chapter, is taking the citizens of the state for. They should however note that to rule a state or country, it's not by sentiments or campaign slogans. You make your priorities known to the people you are willing to govern and let them know if you stand for or against their collective interest.
On the other hand, another malady going on in Kwara state at the moment is the recent penchant for thuggery and terrorism which is raising a serious concerns against the peace and security of the state heading into the forthcoming elections. There has been persistent case of billboards and campaign posters vandalism which has been generating into chaos and physical attacks from the supporters of the two leading political parties.
