2007 Corolla Gear Shift Stick Problem by Dozi05(m): 5:45am On Feb 03, 2019
Yesterday 2nd Feb I noticed that my car refused to engage the park and reverse gears when I got home. I stopped the car and noticed it refused to start now.

Previous info: I had changed the Kickstarter like 2 weeks ago but noticed the alternator might be about failing too

Your car engine speed and gear input speed are not equal when the computer commands lockup. It's one of the following:

the solenoid is bad (stuck),
the relay valve is stuck,
The torque converter clutch is bad.

A good scan tool can test the solenoid while still in the gear. Your solenoid should be an on/off type so should be heard clicking during test, with key on engine off. This test will eliminate the solenoid as the culprit.

If the solenoid clicks and does not kill the engine when activated with key on engine running, your tech should focus on the gear box and torque converter.

For most gears, reversing the relay valve will keep the TCC circuit applied, and will lurch the car forward at cranking. If this does not happen, then my money is on the TC.

Something else; to confirm what the computer is seeing, your tech needs to look at live data when driving, and compare the engine and input speed when lockup is commanded. It should be 1:1.

A bit more technical for you but, a good tech will understand. Good luck!

Boss Kashif, Thank you very much for this. Though, like you said, its very technical for me.

How long can i drive the car before it will degenerate into bigger prob.

Do u have an idea how much it will take to fix it, assuming the culprit is number one, two or three.

My schedule for the next 3 month will be so tight, i can only give someone that can help me go and fix.

I will expect your reply and most importantly, can i bring the car to you to fix.

Thank u sir.

For now, i have only experience a little increased in fuel consumption. Am the type that monitor my fuel guage often thats why i could notice it, if not i might probably not even know. Car still drive normal.

Your fuel economy will deteriorate because power is endlessly lost in the wet clutch. Your transmission should also be over heating
