Just came back from 2 wks holiday in Texas. I absolutely love it and cant have enough of merika so much i intend to go during thanksgiving in November this time to Newyork, New Jersey, Washington and chicago.
I will also like to do some shopping and i understand thanksgiving period is a good time to shop.
What i want to know is if it is better the week before or after the thanksgiving.

actually the best time is the day after thanks giving that day is called black friday. people go to the mall at 4am in the morning to get limited crazy sales. So your answer is the day after turkey day

Someone already beat me to it: Black Friday is the best! I've seen people push the elderly to get a $3 coffee maker, so be careful. And try and avoid Wal-Mart: they have terrible business practices but some of their clientele leaves somethings to be desired, especially when there are deep bargains up for grabs (and Wal-Mart has those in spades). Also, you just missed Tax-Free Weekend in Texas; it's a great time to buy clothes, electronics and certain types of furniture. Good luck next time and I'm glad you enjoyed Texas!

Moreover avoid Time Square in NY since it's a target for those bomb bastards grin grin grin grin

As a professional shopaholic-- The day after Thanksgiving is good, but if you want to get some real bargains- try after Christmas!!

Shopping on black friday is a total waste! The weather is waaay below zero and the good deals are pretty much gone
before 6am. Keep an eye out for regular store sales and go to Nordstrom rack, TJ Maxx, Marshalls ; Surely you'd find something

We enjoyed it so much we didnt want to leave. The kind of residential buildings there, with den, children play area, large living rooms and all that. My kids didnt want to come back unfurtunately they dont have 'paper' lol
Nice place we will sure be there again in the nearest future.

^^^^actually, that wasnt a joke. depending on how the Dollar fluctuate would mean the difference between more or less money to spend. i dont know where you live but the € has lost a big chunk lately and European spenders will feel the difference.
for the last 1yr+, going to the US to shop with Euros felt like having a year long sale but now that the € is back to normal, the bonanza is over.

Thanks i understand but i am not going purposely to shop but to see what those places look like just an opportunity to buy a few things. I wasnt satisfied with seeing only Texas and i dont really have flexible time as i have to take time off work in advance so cant really go just anytime.
Thanks a mill.
