I've been dreaming about beign an administrator, if i can dream it, then i can do it, Seun also startted from somewhere, somebody also need to handle the post. Have a nice day guys

U didnt state the requirement just what u'l like the person to be like
LoL...what degreee u cant just post a job vacancy without the pay and qualification...im assuming u will prefer some1 with a computing background or someone with technical know-how concerning web forums
seems like u just want many people to apply

Remember this wb shizzle is ur BABY!!! u think ur gonna trust someone or be satisfied with other people's work?

saying all this im interested but, i can only correct peoples mistakes....move discussions to the right places but i dnt know the in and out of web development wink

good luck mate grin

u can give me a part time job, n groom me not full access authority..can do this for free wink
Re: Full Time Nairaland Forum Administrator/Moderator Wanted <no more> by Seun(m): 2:20pm On Jan 13, 2006
I mean minorities like whites and gay people. I was just trying to be cute; don't take that line seriously! cheesy

Yes, students can apply for the job but I wonder how many hours a day a student will be able to put in. I want to have a time (between 8am and 5pm) in which someone is always online to answer people's questions and respond to violations in real-time.

The job is not completely a full-time one in the sense that there are days in which you'll have nothing much to do but you never know when a new member or spammer is going to come in and start creating work for you to do, so I want the person to be online even if not actively working. You'll often have the opportunity to check out other sites or catch up on studies.

I think the person will start out assisting me and if I'm satisfied with the performance he/she wil take over. The monthly pay starts at $300 <gulp> just to maintain the site the way it is but I can be convinced to pay more if the administrator's actions will make the site grow. I don't care about your degree as long as I have a way of judging your ability.

I have already recieved one promising application which I am looking into.

Whitesoftx, I think your dream is a noble one. Here are some skills that wil be helpful:
- Ability to type and perform simple tasks very quickly, because sometimes the volume of changes you have to make while editing will be high and your typing speed will make all the difference. I type fast and it helps.
- Good command of the English language so you can help those who are language-challenged when thy decide to start their own topics.
- Maturity, good judgement, control over your emotions, ability to appreciate and follow our rules. In order to make this easier and protect you from attacks, your identity will be hidden from the members of the forum so when they are unhappy they won't attack you like they attack me.
- Willingness to do odd jobs that might help to make the forum more popular.

I have mixed feelings about having an admin based abroad. The admin based abroad is likely to have access to cheap Internet access and power, but my $300+ compensation will be peanuts to such an admin.

The idea of hiring a full time admin person for NL is a very good one and will definitely make the forum to achieve it's purpose the more.

Re: Full Time Nairaland Forum Administrator/Moderator Wanted <no more> by elbaron(m): 4:41pm On Jan 15, 2006
Seun, are you seriously going to pay someone $300 per month to run this site? Cant believe you are serious. Where will you get the money from? Does this site generate any kind of income for you? I contend that whoever should run it should do it for free. Now if Nairaland wants their site administrator to get paid, it is a beautiful thought. But first things first, let's make the site a subscription based forum. Nothing fancy. Just enough so we can pay the administrator $300 per month and renew the site's licence when it expires and maintain our servers.

Now if we don't want to pay for that, I believe the administrator can forget about getting paid.
Re: Full Time Nairaland Forum Administrator/Moderator Wanted <no more> by LoverBwoy(m): 8:04pm On Jan 15, 2006
im sure he has a reason for paying for an admin so there can be 2 admins,1 monitoring and editing and sole admin working on his other sites

he didnt mention havin any problem payin someone 300$ or  renewing the site's licence im sure he gets his money somehow..afterall this is his business
Re: Full Time Nairaland Forum Administrator/Moderator Wanted <no more> by Seun(m): 12:45am On Jan 16, 2006
Yeah, the Nairaland Forum has reached a reasonable revenue target that justifies the action of employing someone for $300 or so if I want the empire to keep moving forward. Although it would be bad if after paying for an admin one does not get the expected relief.

I don't like volunteers because when you say "please this is what I want" the next thing you hear is "you are talking to me as if I am making any money from this job".

Dear Seun,

i am quite impressed with the forum and believe me since i joined some months back i have loved every minute of it
you have indeed excelled because of the impecable stardard you set for the site, thumbs up
your advert for an administrator is indeed eye catching but you failed to state the qualification required.
i would love to be part of this great site but i have an OND in Mass Communication and have started my HND on Part Time basis i wish i am given an opportunity to prove my worth, i am a fast learner and i am willing to learn with a wonderful disposition.
awaiting your response

Regards

Tolu

One more question!.i asked it before but you did not answer it.
Is it only one person that you need for the job?
Can students in University do part-tme job and earn?
Re: Full Time Nairaland Forum Administrator/Moderator Wanted <no more> by Seun(m): 3:23pm On Jan 16, 2006
I feel that it will be hard to synchronize the efforts of two part-time admins. Thy might end up stepping on each other's toes!
Re: Full Time Nairaland Forum Administrator/Moderator Wanted <no more> by nferyn(m): 3:36pm On Jan 16, 2006
Seun,

Why don't you take an adminsitrator for the technical management of the board and some moderators for monitoring the content?

What is "technical management"?
Things like purging the databases, optimising the software, developing an deploying new functionality, moving and merging threads, user administration, ...

Moderation, would include the tedious monitoring of the posts, intervening and warning users of infractions, ...

As a web admin myself, I understand what it means to battle spammers.  Those people are relentless.

In my case, I handle spamming by writing scripts that deny posting of any spammy material.  I can do that because I'm in a specific market.  Unfortunately, a forum like this deals with a diverse array of topics, making human monitoring inevitable.

However, you can still create scripts that'd automatically deny the posting of the following:

419 letters.
UK lottery scams.
Russian dating scams.
"How To Make Big Money From Your Home Computer" frauds.

When I first started running my site, I was constantly deleting messages and user accounts in response to user complaints.  But now, no user can post these kinds of garbage on my website anymore.
