Nup Endorses Fashola For Second Term ! by wales(m): 8:20am On Aug 26, 2010
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Lagos State chapter, has called on the State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, to declare his interest in contesting next year’s gubernatorial election.

Pledging the union’s unalloyed support for the project to Daily Sun in Lagos, Chairman of the union, Alhaji Nojeemdeen Ibrahim, explained that their aspiration was based on the excellent performance of the governor and therefore reasoned that “one good turn, deserves another.”

Alhaji Ibrahim further explained that Fashola had been good to pensioners and that they believed that he would do even more for them if he was supported to continue in office.

According to Ibrahim, before Fashola came into office, “pensioners had suffered untold hardship due to non payment of our pensions for six years. However, shortly after coming into office, Fashola paid three years of our accumulated six-year pension arrears. I mean the 142 per cent increase on pension and ever since, he has not defaulted in paying us as and when due”
Ibrahim also explained that apart from their paid pensions, Fashola had turned Lagos around and done very well in all sectors of the state, citing several road construction projects, drainages and waste management.

Echoing similar views, Lagos State patron of the pensioners, Alhaji Rasheed Olu-Ajayi, said the union believed that Governor Fashola had done very well and had taken the welfare of senior citizens serious by paying their pensions on time, providing them with free medical treatment and giving them foodstuff during festive seasons.
“We are speaking out now because of the rumour making rounds that some influential people in the state are planning to stop Fashola from contesting in the election next year. We believe that any person nursing such thoughts does not have good intentions for the state.”

Reminded that Fashola had not even declared his interest in running for re-election, Olu-Ajayi said perhaps the time was not yet ripe, adding “We want to urge him to declare his interest now. We are not interested in their politics but if we fail to speak out in support of the truth, our grandchildren will not forgive us. Lagos had never had it so good. We want Fashola to continue in office; that is the best thing that could happen to Lagos State.”
On what the pensioners would do if Fashola was prevented from running or decided on his own not to, Olu-Ajayi said all pensioners in Lagos had perfected plans to meet that possibility but preferred to keep it under wraps for now

“We believe he will contest and urge him to do so in the over all interest of the state. We have no doubt that he would win. Lagosians are rooting for him to declare his re-election bid now. Fashola should not hesitate any longer, he has greater support than those planning to abort his second coming,” Chief Olu-Ajayi said.

Yeah! Me thinks he deserves a second tenure after which he should move on to Aso rock. Those are the kind of leaders we need in Nigeria.

I feel Babatunde Raji Fashola should hearken to the voice of his supporters- The People of Lagos State. Nigeria has a lot of rulers but few leaders. Fashola has done his best for Lagos State and I've noticed that he is very sincere when he speaks about his plans for the people of the state. Obviously, some powerful interests in the state do not like change and they're scared of what might happen to the usual opportunities to embezzle funds if Fashola leads us for another four years. Fashola should not leave office after completing his first term. We need continuity in government for some time. He is really trying considering the fact that infrastructural development in Lagos has been abandoned for about two decades before he came Governor. Babatunde Raji Fashola, I wish you well. Cheers.

Contrary to your view many will actually vote for Fashola because of all those reasons you gave. For example; I packed out of my house in Surulere because Fashola was working on our street and I could not enter my house, I used to pack my car in our negbouring street. I now live in Ikeja but I' am going to vote for Fashola come 2011. Why?. Beacuse irrespective of all the hardships caused us then, working on the road was the right decision by the government. Many streets used to flood back in the days after rainfall but I asked somebody and he told me the street no longer flood these days. Fashola is the best governor I have seen since I came to Lagos. He really have a plan for Lagos state and to carry out these plans don't require looking at anybody's face. Carry go Fashola!!.

Though, all of us can never have the same opinion on so many issues,

but in a situation like this, the right thinking fellows with sound conscience

should accept that  GoV.Fashola had contributed immensely to this New Lagos of ours.

If one is not senseless, one can not see this Achiever as an heartless fellow.

I don't have anything against his going for a second time because he has really tried however, I only hope he will consolidate on what he started and ensure that the parts he is neglecting in terms of road infrastructures are visited.
Moreso, I hope he will be able to abolish the LCDA structure and revert back to the 20 LGAs so that we can know those to hold responsible at the grassroot level. In most areas, nothing has been done and the high tax imposed on us do not translate to development of our areas as the LCDAs only get allocations and expend it on only God knows what.
Finally, Fashola should try to get himself involved in the ways our LGA expend their allocation so that the infrastructural development being carried on in the state can be executed at the grassroot too.

‘Fashola Deserves 2nd Term’

Supporters of Governor Babatunde Fashola for a second term in office known as The Continuity Team (TCT) have held a rally in Surulere, Lagos to demonstrate their resolve to support him for a second term.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, the leader and founder of the team, Barrister Dapo Durosinmi-Etti, urged those gathered to remain steadfast in their resolve to ensure Governor Fashola gets a second term in office.

”Fashola has done well in Lagos and he deserves a second term. We can all see what he has done and that is why we want him to continue,” Durosinmi-Etti stated.

He told the supporters not to relent in their efforts to mobilise more Lagosians into Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in their respective wards across the state to ensure a second term for the incumbent governor.

“You have to go out and participate actively in mobilising everybody. You must be relevant in your respective wards to champion the course of TCT,” he counselled.

The TCT chieftain highlighted the achievements of Governor Fashola amidst thunderous ovation from the crowd.

”The entire universe can attest to the fact that our governor is the best and the greatest achiever that deserves to be encouraged for another term,” he added.

He implored all those present to embark on massive mobilisation of new members to ensure victory at next year’s elections.

Another TCT leader, Alhaji Thompson urged members to remain focused and resist every antics of detractors trying to destroy TCT.

Sarkin Hausawa Commends Fashola

The Sarkin Hausawa in Lagos State, Alhaji Sani Kabir, has commended the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, for his foresight and rapid transformation of the state.

“He has done well, everyone can see the evidence of the government’s performance. I commend him for his foresight and development of Lagos State,” Alhaji Kabir told P.M.NEWS yesterday during a call to our office.

The Sarkin Hausawa allayed the fears of Lagosians that the ugly incident of the strike embarked upon by Hausa food stuff traders will reccur, saying the conflict had been resolved.

“Lagos State government has reduced considerably the tax the traders pay on on their goods. I also like to thank the government on this positive step which has permanently resolved the crisis,” Alhaji Kabir said.

He, however, appealed to Governor Fashola to consider the appointment of Arewa people for cabinet posts, especially now that there are vacancies with the exit of a commissioner and a senior special adviser.

According to him, the request to include Arewa in government of Lagos State was made about 10 years ago, stressing that since the Igbo have slots in the Fashola administration, Hausas should not be left out.

The Sarkin Hausawa said he was born in Lagos over 40 years ago and that his parents lived many years in Lagos and contributed their quota to the development of the state.

Like the Yoruba, Ibos were considered for recognition in states like Kano, Kaduna and Sokoto, he therefore said Lagos State should not be an exception.

He canvassed that the Hausa and other ethnic groups as well as foreigners should also be recognised in the state.

Alhaji Sani Kabir argued that the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos made it imperative for government to recognise and integrate all the different nationalities into the government of the state.

babapupa , why do you give me the impresion that you people are scared of me. ? You think I would run abi. I notice anytime I come online, you people do this.

LOOk I love my people, I do not want to steal like you people are doing to them. I have seen the white build his society for their next generation. I want to do the same for your next generation. Why wouldyou babapupa  want people to steal from you.

babapupa i think, you think I want to take Fashola jobs. if I want a job in nigeria, it is jonathan jobs I would love to have because I do not want to end , given free education to the yorubas only, I would want to do it for every nigerian. it takes alot of money to run for president. If I get a party willing to join me in this change, I would return to nigeria and run for president of nigeria.  I know I am going to win. the person I want to pick as vice president is one key to success. my opinion is if I dont run, fashola should run for president instead going for second term. he should not be scared of lossing, it would increase his party number of state. If he is scare,  my run.
