Ogun State Is Underpoliced — Daniel by Kennyblues(m): 9:31am On Aug 26, 2010 |
Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel on Wednesday expressed dismay at the security situation in the state. Daniel, who also expressed worry at the incessant robbery cases in Ijebu Ode, said the crime situation was due to the inadequate policing of the state. Speaking at the state secretariat in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta while donating an Armoured Personnel Carrier to the state command, he said that the state faced the challenge of policing 17 urban locations. “This APC costs N49.5m. I confess we don’t have the money. We had to go and source for it. It is something that we are proud to do and will be glad to defend, either now or in the future. “We have also released some money for the repair of the old APCs. There is an additional N40m to enhance the communication system of the state police command. I appeal to the Federal Government that all our security bosses should stop looking at Ogun State as that colourless state 10 years ago, where there was hardly any commercial activity. “Ogun State has now become an urban state. As a matter of a fact, in our master plan, we identified 17 urban locations in Ogun State. So, there is a challenge of one Police Mobile Force formation not being able to handle 17 urban locations,” he said. Daniel also used the occasion to berate the state lawmakers for their Tuesday resolution challenging the government to a public debate, before they would consider approving the contentious N100bn bond. He said, “The precarious financial situation in Ogun State is not something that is strange to our people. Let me say today that in the whole of this country, there is hardly any state that has not gone to the financial market to seek help.” http://www.nigeriamasterweb.com/ |

I don't agree with the statement made by governor Gbenga; saying that the state is under policed could mean one of two things: * a shortage of police personnel * ineffective policing by available personnel His statements categorically places him in the former class. I suggest that the governor should concentrate on enhancing available social infrastructure instead of lamenting on the state of policing in Ogun state, which is a problem of the federal government by virtue of the Nigerian police system. It is a simple step which will go a long way in bettering security in Ogun state without the need for issuing bonds. The number of states issuing bonds, in addition to news that the 2011 elections is going to be run on borrowed money is not helping our national economy. Iredia |

The whole country is under-policed. The solution is State police. Let each state employ as many police officers as they need. |

Re: Ogun State Is Underpoliced — Daniel by WAIDSANNI(m): 4:33pm On Aug 27, 2010 |
It is a matter of simple arithmetic. If the state has 10,000 police and he recruted 5,000 thugs and hoodlums, in each local government, how on earth wiil the police protect innocent citizens when they will be busy, putting survellance on his thugs. The man did not in any way resemble the Daniel in the Bible, his case iis like that of Saul who started well and ended in shambleeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss. As a child of lets keep praying for him. |
