This thread should reach the front page, let me join the movement with my own story...... I was appointed a school functionary, an appointment I reluctantly accepted. Few months into my tenure, I was stripped and some charges were labelled against me. I quickly disregarded them as hear say. I was asked to vacate the "hall-reps" room I occupied which I was ready to do without problems because it was never something I wanted in the first place. Within 24hrs the story was all over school about the reason for my being stripped of office. The tale going round was that I had broke bounds out and made my way back in by way of scaling the fence and was caught by a security man who tried taking me in and I resisted. The story Continued that I beat him blue-black and got him in coma. The chief security officer who was driving past saw this, drove back and took me to the security post. My close friends who heard the bolded part laughed their stomachs to bursting point because, telling anyone that I beat someone up till a point of coma was akin to saying Kim kardashian, Paris Hilton and Tiwa savage are still virgins. I was the feeble minded one. Now I had one year left in school and that was all that mattered to me. But I considered and pondered that if I allowed this issue stay the way it is, it will only give credence to the story. My vacating the hall-reps room will also add weight to it and will ensure i lived the rest of my days in school in shame, i had to do something. So I took the case up. I pulled the few strings I could and got myself reinstated and transferred to a new room. The shock on the faces of all the students on orientation day when I was given the mic to introduce myself and name the hostel i'm in charge of remains pure gold to me and is still etched in my memory to give me smiles. The crazy rumour did a world of good to me and my reputation. I was back with a bang, an aura of mystery around me and a bit of the fear factor on the students I governed. They reasoned that anyone who could place an able-bodied security man in coma will just crush a student with his fingers. That my dear people, was the craziest rumour ever peddled around me which taught me a life's lesson, "Do not believe everything you hear" . The true story- I was at the first gate to call someone on the second gate for some business, both gates are still in school. I have never left school without due permission. All I wanted to do was cross, call and return to school, believing as a functionary I could do so and get away with it. Sadly the men at the gate interpreted it as breaking bounds and I was taken to the security post without any issue or squabbles. Till today, I have been meaning to have a little chat with the fellow who started the other story. He deserves an Oscar for scriptwriting. Thank you for your time......hope I didn't bore you 1 Like |
