Where do some pastors get their powers?




First and most importantly no pastor has any sort of special powers. They are the exact same as you and I.

Jesus in the New Testament stated “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.’ John 14:12 NIV

In Acts 1 (please read it if you haven’t) Jesus’ disciples were praying and waiting on God as Jesus had instructed them to do. They were then baptized by Holy Spirit and received power and authority on this earth. When a Christian believes in His heart that Jesus was raised from the dead and confesses with His mouth He is Lord He will be saved. When Holy Spirit enters us we receive this power you are presumably referring to. This power is God working through us and nothing more. It is not our power as we can not control it. Holy Spirit empowers man only to glorify Jesus, and many times He does this through signs and wonders.

Be careful though, many religious figures distort the power of God with charismatic personalities and emotionalism. It may seem as though they have the power to work miracles when in reality they are just as or more lost than the majority of us. Look for a pastor whom gives all the glory to God in every circumstance. Whether it be in an insignificant prayer or seeing a broken leg healed.

I’m not one to debate theology so please save any arguments you have with my experiences and beliefs unless you sincerely desire understanding and not argument.




All powers belong to God and He gives to His people as He deems fit:
O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God. (Psalms 68:35)

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.( Luke 10:19)

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.( Zechariah 4:6)

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Many Pastors today, who have been given the power to become the children of God (John 1:12), understand  that they serve all-powerful God and they go all out to seek His power. You too need to believe that God is ever willing to release His power to His people.
