I have a frosted glass chess at home, since I got married I've been begging my wife for me to teach her but she shows no interest. embarassed angry
I give up, I'm just gonna wait till my 5 month old son turns 5yrs so I can teach him and have a chess play mate cry

Lmao! You can't blame her sha, that's not where her interest lies in. Anyways, you can ask her what sports she's interested in or would like to learn, maybe she'd be more interested smiley.

Awww I can feel your pain Mr. grin grin. Let's just hope your son doesn't turn out to be like mum too grin

You sound like one that doesn't really have an idea on how it works, the concept of cheating is very rare in chess. The aspects of quitting too is another thing.

Just tell us you don't like to think too much. No need for all the grammar. We go understand...

Yeah I have more important things to do than waste time just thinking about how to beat an opponent. life is too short to spend it mostly thinking about next moves on chess

And that's what makes it extremely booring, cause you keep thinking how ur opponent will counter certain, once you finally decide an awesome one, d opponent will just make a dumb move or outright quit because he thinks u are cheating

Depends on ur definition of boring, I find it very intriguing and taxing that I have to outwit an opponent's intelligent effort. Moreover it helps develop ur reasoning ability

The game is over hyped, booring as fuvck when you are too good & ur opponent is an amateur, And extremely time consuming if your opponent is good.

In summary, god of war is MUCH MORE ENTERTAINING, as you get to enjoy the feeling of slaying old gods, giants & mythical creatures who get in ur way
Usually there is time limit at the higher level to make it more interesting. I'm a fine chess player. its the kind of games.

My son is curious, moreover it's easier to build interest in children than adults

Soo beautiful to have a wife as chess playmate. I'll let her win sometimes. I do that to my brothers and table tennis friends - let them win after thrashing them to my fill. grin So they will never lose hope.

Recently watched the movie "Queen of Katwe" last week. A movie produced by Disney in 2016 on slum kids from Uganda who learnt how to play chess..... starring Lupita Nyongo.
Loved the movie. It was truly inspirational.
I guess this idea came from the movie.
Well done
I thought as much. Queen of Katwe is a very interesting movie.

CHESS IN SLUMS
We are a cause focused on training the kids living in slum communities the Game of Chess because we believe Chess is a game that offers so many techniques to equip a child with the necessities to fight the battle of life..

The End Game is not to just make them Champions in the Game of Chess but also Champions in the Game of Life.

We are currently training 100 profiled kids in Majidun Ogolonto Community of Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria. This is the 7th month of this great movement and so far we have been able to use photo journalism on our social media platforms @chessinslums to tell the stories of these amazing kids and we have gotten lifelong scholarships for some of them..

We are currently running a GO FUND ME CAMPAIGN to sponsor the education cost and other necessities of our amazing students.

We are set to rewrite the narrative and correct the wrong stereotype of the society about kids living in the Slums, our students have been opportune to participate in some chess competitions and they are currently participants of the ongoing CHESS PLAYERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA [CPAN] CHESS LEAGUE going on at Chevron..

We had our matches yesterday and today [23rd and 24th of March 2019]
They fought gallantly and we are proud of their progress as they have only learnt the game for 7months and on weekends only with the limited resources we train them with.

With the exposure and knowledge garnered,
Their next match would definitely see a lot of improvement!

We are Chess In Slums and we are on the path to unveil the royalty in every child.

We are set to Raise Champions from the Slums!
You can go on this journey with us on all our social media platforms @chessinslums

Meet our amazing WCW!

Precious is her name. She is indeed a rare gem, as precious as gold. I was captivated by her smile when I first saw her walk into our training centre last year. She had a striking semblance with the character Phiona Mutesi in the popular Disney movie; Queen of Katwe.

With a very calm demeanor, I watched Precious grow as a chess player over the past few months. Now she has grown to be one of our best female chess players.

Just last week Saturday, during our Chevron chess league match, I watched her face off fearlessly against Mr Lolomari George who happens to be the Head of Treasury Shell EP Companies in Nigeria. She had no idea of who she was up against, but she played anyway, giving it her best fight.

I'm incredibly proud of how far Precious has come and there's definitely no limit to where her dreams will take her. The day I saw her selling fish on the streets during school hours, my heart sunk deeply in oceans. Then I realized that she's from Cameroon and was brought to Nigeria to live with her aunt who sells fish for a living.

Precious has been out of school for two years now because they barely make enough to feed themselves, let alone afford school fees payment. Though deeply saddened for being out of school, she chooses to smile cheerfully while helping her aunt to sell fish.

Chess has been a great escape for her in tremendous ways. She is highly intelligent and always ecstatic whenever I offer her books to read. She would carefully jot down words she doesn't understand and I help her with the definitions and usage in sentences.

As a result of this, she has developed great passion for scriptwriting and hopes to become a scriptwriter someday.

I worry because Precious is just 14 years old but already has all features of a young lady. It is only a matter of time before men start trying to take advantage of her.

For most girls in Majidun community, teenage pregnancy is prevalent because that seems to be the only option available for them.

This is one narrative we have come to change. We will not stand for this!
Precious deserves quality education, she deserves a chance to live out her dreams.

There are 13.4 million children who are school dropouts in Nigeria and Precious is one of them.

This is a great tragedy.

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little.

Let us all rise for the sake of Precious. Every child is worth it. They are worth love, they are worth the sacrifice.

What is more important?
What is bigger?
What is better than giving someone hope of a greater tomorrow?

Education is the most powerful weapon with which we can use to change the world- Nelson Mandela

Save a girl child today and know that you are empowering a mother to many nations.

Send us a DM if you would like to offer financial support to help enrol Precious in a private school.

Let us also share this to the ends of the world.

#IMAGINE IF YOU COULDN'T READ THIS
#QUALITY EDUCATION FOR PRECIOUS

The Chess in Slums Initiative is a Non- profit organization aimed at using the noble game of chess to help youngsters in slum communities realize their full potential by integrating principles of the game with management of daily challenges in life, enhancing abstract thinking, creativity and innovation.

This initiative was founded by National Master Tunde Onakoya, a passionate chess player/coach who strongly believes that chess can be wielded as a powerful tool to change the world.

He says the game changed his life and he is trying to use it to help the children in the slums as he also came from there.

Recently, He did a short documentary with BBC Africa about the purpose of the Initiative and how it has improved the lives of some of the children there. Some of the children have even gotten scholarships to study. Most of their scholarships came from social media, with some users asking how they can contribute to the project.

This short documentary have gone viral over a space of a few days, with Popular online platforms like Bellanaija writing a short piece on the documentary
