You have to realize my point is not primarily about accepting the lunch but the wordings he used in turning down the offer, thus casting aspersions at the woman.
Let me give you an analogy, how will you feel if you walked up to a married co-worker and asked if she could spend some minutes after work so that you can run a presentation for a client that will come tomorrow by her for her inputs and she suddenly screamed "Won't you leave me alone, I am married or are you too blind to see the ring on my finger" because she assumed you had plans to make a move on her in those "special minutes" after the close of work.
