NEWSBREAKING: INEC suspends collation of supplementary governorship election results in KanoPublished on March 24, 2019 By Chijioke Jannah

The Independent National Electoral Commission has halted the collation of the supplementary governorship election in Kano State.


Results from 21 local councils have been collated already and it saw the incumbent Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress shrinking the 26,655 votes gap between him and his challenger, Abba Kabir-Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party.

However, there is uncertainty surrounding yesterday’s supplementary governorship election in the state sequel to the suspension of collation.


Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Riskuwa Shehu, announced the suspension of collation early on Sunday citing the invasion of Nasarawa Local government collation centre by thugs.

Briefing journalists, observers and party representatives at the State INEC office, Shehu said: “As we were waiting to reconvene with the intention to continue with the collation, we heard a disturbing report that just as they were about to conclude, results collation in Nasarawa local government were disrupted and the result sheet torn away and there was a lot of commotion and the police had to rescue some people.

“As it is now, we don’t have the result and even the E. O. (Electoral Officer) had to be rescued. Luckily, nothing happened to him. He was saved from the crisis.


“But the intention of the commission is that we are going to refer to our primary and secondary data of results that were collated from the polling units as well as the ward level.

“When we get the results in the presence of all the representatives of political parties, we will regenerate the results and we will confirm those that are acceptable within our laws and guidelines and those that have to be cancelled because the card readers will have to be referred to as well.

“Based on that, we will have genuine results and we will complete the collation for the state governorship election,” he said

I dont support rigging. Whether for or against my party. It makes us all look foolish. Like we cannot vote a non performing governor out.

its even getting worse. Imagine election in one local govt was still hijacked by thugs in the predence of security men. Haba, No shame at all.

As expected. That sham of a result fabricated by APC and Ganduje cannot stand. Next time, rig with brain. Bloody nuisance of a returning officer. Why can't you do that in the last election, but intend to do that here.
APC think they are smart.

For inec to be fair, this re-run held was marred with violence in some many part of the LG were rerun was held. Therefore, the initial election conducted weeks back was affected with just a single LG, then INEC should produce the secondary copy and do the needful.

Not their fault totally.... the politicians are really desperate. They sent thugs to destroy results of a local government. So you cant really blame INEC for this. Even the Electoral Officer managed to escape unhurt

Powers that be in APC wants Ganduje out. Buhari wants Ganduje around but he wants to appear neutral.

That's why you would hear a zombie like suyabbq saying "anybody that wants to win in kano should win" even ogundasimi would say " if nano want ganduje out, let him leave".

They are angry with ganduje, i know it's not about the dollar issue, it's a lot deeper than we know. But we shall find out.

This government conducted the worst elections so far..

I can only say congrats to APC in this Next Level election they conducted. If the party didn't support rigging and violence at the top, being the one controlling the centre, PDP won't try it. They are the one doing it openly.
It's a pity that we don't have shame but it can't continue like this.
