I was coming back from school with my friend Theodore, we approached in front of my house when we saw a gathering of people, I was troubled by the gathering. I found my way into our sitting room and I found my mother on the floor with her hair scattered, some women were hold her.
I was lost in thought, so I scanned the room for my sister and found her covering her face, I guess she was crying. at the far end of the sitting room, I saw my father's only brother his name is Ejike, he has a hoarse voice, his voice can shake Mountains.
Then my father, I remembered my father, my father have been sick for sometime. he was admitted into the village hospital were he was receiving treatment,I walked up to my mum and looked into her teary beautiful face and said mama tell me, papa is dead. That made her cried more, I was moved to tears but the tears refused to come down my cheeks. I was about leaving the room for a quiet place were I can stay and mourn my dad when the hoarse voice of Ejike paused my movement. Stanley, were are you going, we have a serious situation at hand and you are leaving, you this boy, I will live to see what you will become. I hated Ejike for no reason, so I ignored him and walked out of the sitting room. I went into our kitchen and sat down on a stool.

I talking within my self, I asked dad why he would leave us, how are going to survive without him, my dad was a tailor who can barely feed his family, I and my only sibling olamma was in a government school. l was in primary five while my sister was in primary three. mama had no occupation, except for the little farmland she plants on and sell most of her harvest in the market.

My family was a very peaceful family, I and my sister was very be and handsome, I guess our beauty came from my mum whom my father called mkpurunma.

I didn't know how long I spent in the kitchen thinking, I was still there when my sister came in, and on seeing tears in her face, I couldn't hold my tears any longer

Brother! why is mummy crying,
I don't know, don't worry I will find out later I answered her
did uncle Ejike beat her she asked
I will kill him if he tries that I answered her again.
I was her hero, with me around her, she feels very comfortable.

later that evening uncle Ejike called me and advice not to cause my mum any trouble, stay around her, and don't ask her much questions.

Throughout that night, I cried bitterly, I cried till I saw myself crying in my dreams.

Days turned into weeks as they burial of my dad approached. olamma never ceased to ask about papa and I blamed her not.

The burial day finally arrived and

After papa's burial, things were so hard for us, we barely eat and whenever we eat, it's once a day. there were times we would go tow days without eating so we had to sell the only piece of land we had in order to survive
With the help of uncle Ejike, we were able to sell the land. We were able to go back to school and mama started a petty business with the money raised from selling the land.

One day we were robbed in our house by some heartless village hoodlums and the made away with the last naira we had. we went back to our formal condition. things were so difficult to the extent mama owed many people in the village.

My troubles started the day my mum asked me to go and collect garri from Ejike's wife, and on getting there, there was garri frying on fire but no one was around, I looked round no one was watching so I scooped some into my mouth. it tasted nice, I wanted to go and knock and peacefully do as I was asked but something spoke to me,
*Stanley, how can you and your family be starving at home when these people have more than enough to eat, indeed uncle Ejike is a very wicked person, he couldn't even help you people since your father died, please collect as much as you can and disappear nobody will notice *

Without thinking twice, I used a rubber bowl and scooped in more than enough into my sack back and disappeared. On reaching home, my mum was surprise at the amount of garri I carried.
so you mean Amaka gave you all this
yes I answered and she said you shouldn't bother paying for it
OK I will go and thank her if that's so
but mama
what she asked
mama I stole the garri I confessed
Stanley did I asked you to go and steal because we are hungry?

Mama scolded and advised me never to try it again, 3Stanley stealing does not ruin in this family and anyone who steals ends up being useless, so better don't do it again.
With that I promised myself that I will never steal again
A promise which I never keep .

That same night, I had a nightmare
I saw mama and oby looking very hungry and begging for arms, I cried bitterly when I saw how hungry the looked so I swore within myself that I was going to help them get something to eat. oby crawled up to me and said brother, we are hungry and suffering but you don't care about us anymore. I hugged her and asked her to wait let me get them something to eat.
I went to a nearby bakery and was putting bread into a carton the workers thought I was a customer buying bread. when I was done, I carried the carton and headed towards the exit door, as soon as I was outside, an alarm bell started ringing, from nowhere fierce looking giant started running towards me, I darted forward and ran with all my might.
I reached my mum and sister but when the sighted me, the stood up and took to their heels
mama I called out, I brought Food for you and oby
I didn't asked you to go and steal she said
with that she disappeared into the tin air.
the giants caught up with me, one of them lifted me up and sent me crashing to the floor, I pleaded with them to spare me but it all fell on deaf ears. one lifted a huge stone and was about crashing my head when I woke up

I was sweating heavily, oh ThankGod it was a dream

But that was only the beginning of my woes

stay tuned
