OBA AKINYELE

There once lived a King in Nigeria, the Southwestern part, Ibadan to be precise, who stood for Christ and shut the mouth of the devil.

Oba Sir Isaac Babalola Akinyele, KBE (18 April 1882 – 30 May 1964) was the first educated Olubadan (non-hereditary traditional ruler) of Ibadan, and the second Christian to ascend the throne.

I read about Oba Akinyele, the first CAC (Christ Apostolic Church) President, the king who stopped using his cap.

In those days, no one dared to confront satan or his institutions in the kingdom of Ibadan, the tradition in those days could not outrightly be separated from satanism.

Human sacrifice and other occult practices were very predominant

The king after meeting Jesus, ordered the abolition of many of the occultic practices.

He stood his ground despite the opposition from almost the whole Ibadan land. He stood for Jesus, believing Him without an iota of doubt.

One day after settling disputes brought to the palace in the presence of the chiefs, unknown to him that charms have been sprinkled on his seat before he came in.
He couldn't stand up from the seat, glued down, the chiefs began to mock him, where is your God but you claimed that He has all power.

The King looked at them, he started reciting Psalm 24 and at the end, he said "I rise up in the name of Jesus", and moved his body, immediately the charm was nullified.
The chief went home ashamed, most of them later gave their life to Jesus.

Another one was a year that a horse was to convey him to a ceremony, unknown to him, the occults in the city had placed a charm on the horse. They employed drummers who beat the drum with charms to make the horse die while carrying the King.

Actually the standing order was that horse must not fall nor die conveying the king, else the king would be rejected, the whole city was watching as the horse began to misbehave and started crying with water gushing out of its eyes.

Fear gripped the whole city, the occult men were already jubilating that his end has come.

Baba David Babajide and other young evangelist at the scene began to sing...
*"agbara Re ga ju ti ota lo oooo, imo Re ga ju tesu lo, Olorun ko seun ti ni o, oso aiye kan kole di o lona ise Re, agbara Re ga ju ti ota lo."*
(Meaning ...... "your power is greater than enemy, your knowledge is higher than the devil. You're a God of all possibilities, no sorcerer can stop you. Your power is greater than enemy"wink

The whole populace erupted the song started by Baba Babajide, dew began to fall during mid day, the horse began to walk majestically, crying like a baby.

When Baba Akinyele was conveyed to the end, the charmers had no choice than to surrender to the Kingship of Jesus and since that day, they stopped engaging Baba Akinyele.

RAW faith provoke RAW miracles.

May we return to this era of tearing the dart of the devil with RAW faith like our fathers of old.

If a king could go all out for God, and be doggedly obedient to Christ in the midst of idolaters, what's your excuse?

Could this be the reason why the Western region of Nigeria seem to be more civilised than the rest of the country?

The catholic made in roads in the Eastern region too. The Yoruba, before any outside influence came to its shores and land, are just naturally intelligient lot. Having "odu ifa" among many other things, is a testament to this intelligence.

I am beginning to wonder who brought the gospel to the likes of king Babalola, the Olubadan of Ibadan and why the CAC seems to be indigenous.

Nwanne, this is like asking who brought the gospel to Rev Ransome Kuti, that is Fela Anikulapo Kuti's father

Well it happens that HRH King Isaac Babalola Akinyele was a younger sibling to Bishop Alexander Babatunde Akinyele. Their parents were one of early converts under the auspices of David Hinderer, the German leader of the Church Missionary Society (CMS) and his team of six missionaries that first brought Christianity to Ibadan in 1851. Here is another let on about HRH King Isaac Babalola Akinyele, he joined Faith Tabernacle the precursor of the Apostolic Church directed by English Missionaries before transitioning finally to Christ Apostolic Church, that happened to be the first Aladura Pentecostal Church in Nigeria. Apparently it is their indigenious factor that captivated and/or wooed him to CAC

Apostle Joseph Ayo babalola is the founder of CAC.

Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola is not the founder of CAC, He was the first Apostle and Evangelist used so mightily by GOD those day. If you check CAC history you'll understand that the day he raised that woman who was being carried to cemetery, there was a meeting going on inside among the elders and seniors in CAC while he was sitting down outside
