Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Imo State governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress and The Caretaker committee of his faction of the Imo State Chapter of APC have filled a petition at Imo State Governorship and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Owerri challenging the declaration of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as winner of governorship election in the state by INEC.

The copy of the petition as seen below has Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha, Peoples Democratic Party and Independent National Electoral Commission as Respondents.

Recall that Uche Nwosu, the governorship candidate of Action Alliance (AA) has also sent his petition to the election tribunal.
Prof. Francis Otunta, returning officer for the election, said Ihedioha won in 11 of the 27 local government areas, polling a total 273,404 votes to defeat his closest contender, Uche Nwosu of the Action Alliance (AA) who won in 10 LGAs and scored 190,364 votes and was therefore declared winner of the election.

Nwosu rejected the results, arguing that there ought to be a rerun because the PDP candidate “did not meet the constitutional requirements”.

Nwosu insisted that Ihedioha did not meet the required 25 per cent of the votes in 18 out of the 27 local government areas in the state.

Senator Ifeanyi Araraume of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), came third with 114,676 votes, winning in four LGAs while APC’s Hope Uzodinma, a serving Senator representing Imo west senatorial district garnered 96,458 votes and won in two LGAs to take the fourth position.
