Empty braggadocio and fake propaganda is not in our culture. It is wired into theirs starting from exaggerated claims of preparedness during the war and also exaggerated casualties as a strategy to help them end the war. Things Fall Apart movie (1971) is a cinematic adaptation of Chinua Achebe's 1958 novel by the same name. The film also combines elements from Achebe's second novel, No Longer at Ease (1960). Another important similarity between fiction and film is the use of sophisticated language. In Achebe's original text, the Igbo characters speak in very elevated prose. This is intentional-- Achebe wanted to challenge the popular notion that African language was crude and inarticulate. For instance, in one scene, Okoye's speech imitates proverbs. In the film, as well, characters speak eloquently, challenging stereotypes against tribal culture.
