But I tot they said Jonathan fixed it.

You don't expect roads to be maintained annually? It's been 5 or 6 years since Jonathan fixed it... these kinds of roads that see such heavy traffic require annual maintenance, especially right before rainy season.

Reference:
The amount of money spent on repairing this road in the past forty years will have built a viable rail line between Lagos and Benin several times over. There are some things about this country that just defy understanding. Sometimes I just wonder how this country can produce such a depth of ignorance amongst so many, many people.

If I was in government I will suggest all interstate highways be sold to state governments and focus all attention entirely on rail transport starting with the most congested routes to gain economic traction and build development momentum from there.

Roads need repair every year. We need rail too, but roads anywhere in the world need constant repair. Tiny pits for example, get bigger with each passing car. Then rain falls in and softens the tar and the underlying clay which will swell and crack the tar even more. Then dry heat will cause the clay and tar to contract. Next thing you know a pothole develops. This is not counting the damage caused by accidents, nor hanging metal parts from vehicles that create long scars on the tar, nor police dragging logs and drums on it, nor the heavy trucks that shear the tar with each passing, nor even intentional sabotage.

Nothing in this world is set and forget... roads needs regular annual checkup and maintenance, and every few years, overhaul, where the entire tar layer is scraped off and redone.

I schooled in uniben, so I know the history and origin of that flooded area. First it an indictment on the kind of civil engineers we produced and the kind of government we have, who see substandard as the common man dividends of governance. When RCC was constructing this road back in 2012. I knew this problem will arise .since the road starts from total filling station at dawnson , a covered drainage from there to oluku bypass was the ideal thing to wade off run off water. The soil mechanics of the total length will indicate a high soil retention ability .The exact position of this havoc is megom junction opposite S & T barracks. The asphalt layer is higher than the ground level of the S&T section while the other is the same .since their is no drainage system the water gathers and flows directly into evubmore street thereby causing untold hardship for the street residents. They decided to use bagged sand as a embankment for the water.it was so high that anytime rain falls the water is trapped.

the op will not mention this.... bro u sabi am!

This is a portion of the Benin-Lagos road located at Ishihor Benin city directly opposite the Army school of Supply and transport S&T barracks Isihor. this bad road usually leaves many commuters stranded especially after a heavy downpour as many drivers will bluntly refuse to take that routes for fear that their buses would be damaged. many vehicles have been damaged in this portion of the road and only a brave few would dare to take that risk.
Shops and business owners cited along the expressway have been made to count their losses as that road is inaccessible by customers. even the popular Megom bar and Osunpec filling station can only enjoy services during dry season and the latter has since closed its business.

DANGERS!!!
Many drivers in other to avoid this bad and over flooded portion of the road have decided to take the ONE WAY route which has claimed the lives of many road users. even the soldiers in the barracks are guilty of taking this ONE WAY route that led to the death of a female UNIBEN student some years ago.

APPEAL!!!
We therefore call on the Federal Government and the ministry of work to come to the aid of road users and make sure that a proper drainage system is constructed. we plead that enough life has been lost already and a lasting solution be carried out.

please lets make sure this appeal gets to front page so the neccessary agencies will be aware!!!

The same road I travelled on Friday and Sunday? Well done sir

Oshiomole is a noisemaker only. Good in politicking and stealing but zero in governance.

Put a toll gate after fixing the road...and use the money raised to fix and keep the road in good repair.

It is the only realistic solution.

Obviously, you have never passed that road. Where dem wan tollgate mbok? That tiny Road?

I ride on this road all the time and I remember it was decent under IBB, then deteriorated during Abacha. It was terrible in the first years of OBJ, then they fixed it. Then it worsened under Yaradua, then fixed during GEJ's time. Now it's becoming worse under PMB, and I expect they will fix it.

This road just needs regular maintenance, like any road in the world, and no administration can say: "such and such did or did not fix it".

All we want is for the current administration to continue to maintain and repair the roads. Full stop. Anything else is pointless excuse.

It links the East to the South West but you can choose to go through the bypass to avoid traffic in the main town
