Omega Power Ministries (OPM) has upped its novel humanitarian activities with the opening of a free specialist hospital in Port Harcourt to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate.

Inaugurating the building, the General Overseer of OPM, Chibuzor Chinyere, said the hospital would offer pregnant women free general delivery, antenatal, postnatal and immunisation among other services.

The hospital, located in Aluu community, has state-of-the-art facilities; laboratories; fully-equipped theatre and emergency rooms; heart machine; and fully stocked pharmacy among others.

Chinyere said the building would be open 24 hours daily to both members and non-members of OPM as well as to members of other Christian denominations, Muslims and pagans.

“The hospital is open to both Muslims and Christians. Any human being can come here and deliver his or her baby without paying a Kobo. It is completely free.

“Similarly, after delivery, the new mothers will be given free-three square meals daily until they are discharged to go home.

“The hospital is powered from the offerings and tithes received in the church. This is where we are getting the money to do all these things,” he said.
Chinyere said the church had so far built 11 free schools, 12 estates and donated boreholes to many communities in Abia and Rivers states.

“OPM also started free restaurants five years ago, where people go to eat without paying a Kobo.

“The 11 free schools are fully equipped with books and laboratories, while the classrooms are fully air conditioned. All the children are given free uniforms, books, sandals, bags and lunch.

“For the 12 estates, we have given free homes to the less privileged as well as rehabilitated and empowered many prostitutes, ex-militants and armed robbers. They all live in our estates free,” he said.

The general overseer said the church had introduced a computer and tailoring training programme for prison inmates to discourage them from going back to crime after their release from prison.

According to him, the church recently acquired 62 plots of land where it is currently building a tuition free all-girls technical college.

Chinyere said he was motivated to embark on the humanitarian activities by the Biblical scripture of Mathew 25:34-40 – where Jesus Christ advocated for the poor.

“Christ said: I was hungry and you gave Me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave Me water to drink. I was a stranger and you took Me in.

“Jesus asked us to love everyone irrespective of their religion and tribe. So, we are doing this simply because we want God to be happy.

“Unfortunately, so many politicians are wicked and heartless. If politicians can think a little bit or more of the people than themselves, Nigeria will become better than China and many other countries,” he said.

Chinyere condemned some pastors for having distorted truth by praising politicians for selfish gains as well as becoming “God to men” instead of “Men of God,”

Also, Ifedayo Olarinde, an On-Air Personality and outspoken critic of lifestyles of some pastors, called on pastors to emulate the humanitarian drive of Chinyere.

Olarinde, who is popularly known as Daddy Freeze, wondered why some pastors charged high tuition in schools built with church money.

“In Nigeria today, we have more people living in extreme poverty than China and India with combined population of over 3 billion. Yet, Nigeria has less than 200 million people.

“I hereby, challenge every church and General Overseer in Nigeria to emulate Pastor Chinyere by building at least one free-standard hospital and school for the people,” he appealed.
